I graduated many years ago, but I will never forget Richard Dillard. He was fun, easy-going and brilliant, with a sincere appreciation for the occasional quirkiness of Hollins students. I rated his classes as "easy," because it was such a delight to be there, experiencing a truly enjoyable intellectual experience.

I did a creative writing independent study with Dillard. He was very, very helpful. In fact, he let me do the study while he was away from campus a term. If he hadn't, I would be a J-term credit short and unable to graduate. I can't say enough good things about this professor.

I think that people are scared of Richard before they take his classes -- after which they realize that he's basically this tall, skinny, super-smart stuffed animal. He's a mad genius, but kind. Take his film classes; he saves his enthusiasm for cinema.
