he was funny and very interested in his stuff. However, his exams were difficult, so it's best to study. took it in the fall, don't think he's teaching though. also, funny story, someone brought a Santa hat and he had a sense of humor so he put it on hehehe

Gethmann was amazing - its too bad he's not teaching anymore. The best part was when he wore a Santa cap around Christmas time, since he looks like the jolly old man himself.

The exams are REALLY difficult, and can be really frustrating (You feel like you know what's going on, but then you go to take the exam and it turns out you don't). His lectures aren't so bad, and can be pretty interesting at times, but make sure to come to every class and take really good notes

this class was extremmely hard.. i thought it would be easy going into but the exams are worded so weird that they confuse you.. attend all lectures..do not just rely on the online videos..also ask questions..go before an exam to get things clarified..i didnt do this and highly regret it... gotta take it over to get better grade :(

Yes he's nice, but face it, we are not here to make friends with the professors. Find old exams, memorize the correct answers and use them as study guides. I also suggest watching the taped lectures in supplement to going to class. Heck, don't even go to class it is a waste of time. I rather watch the videos twice.

He is a pretty good teacher. I learned alot in his class. But he really doesnt curve!! I gota 75 in the class and that was a C, but the class average was a 60 or 63, its hard as hell to get an "A" in the class, even if you know what you are doing.

I don't know how he gets away it because all the other comments are true. I felt like I showed up for the wrong exams everytime even after studying for days.

genetics was a disaster with him-often found factual discrepencies between his lectures and the textbook. also the textbook was useless in matching what was in the lecture. very confusing and disorganized-he often spends the most time on the most useless topics in genetics. not recommend for one who wants actual genetics education

I like Dr. Gethmann a lot but the class is kinda silly! You can only do well (i.e. get an A) if you review old exams. Trying to master the material from his disorganized lectures and way-too-complicated textbook is impossible. Its really the fault of the dept., though. I did well in this class and felt like I learned nothing.

Worse class ever, Lectures off the top of his head. Blows smoke up your crack for 2 hours during lecture talking about nothing that's going to be on his exams. Make friends with poeple that have multiple verisons of previous exams and you will get an A guaranteed

His version of the material seems easy but he flips it on the exam and crushes your hopes of getting an A. Read the book, yet use his lectures and old exams to guide you. Don't skip class because he covers a lot of material that is not in the book like fruit fly genetics; he also takes attendence for extra crdit = quiz grade. Class average ~40s

I didn't think the class was too hard.. I'm not science oriented at all but sometimes the questions people would ask would just be mind numbingly stupid. If you think you're a pretty smart person, you'll be fine in this class. The final was old test questions mixed together, word for word! Awesome. Other tests can be very hard, but you drop one.

Avoid , Basicly you get multiple choice exams the 1st 2 exams are fair but he throws in tricky stuff also , he is a crazy guy he does not care for the students at all -- sure some nerds or re-takers will get a A about 5 when i took it and there is a curve but he gives tricky questions and is very unhelpfull

DO NOT SKIP CLASS unless of course you know everything there is to know about human genetics. Seriously though, don't sleep or skip or else your ass will fall behind. I studied my ass off and attended every lecture and still got a B in the class.

This dude has energy...genetic energy. He is definitely interested in the material he teaches and makes it very interesting as well. However, do NOT, no matter what, fall behind in studying because he goes over a WHOLE LOT of material. In his exams, he assumes you COMPLETELY understand ALL of the WHOLE LOT of material he covered.

Anyone can tell that he's a damn good geneticist. It's a HELL of a LOT of material to cover since the lectures are a friggin almost 2 hours or so, which makes Santa here have a bag full of *fun* tests. Keep up with the material since it's (again) a HELL of a lot and it'll be ok. Very approachable. Once you get to know him he's a real chill guy.

He looks like santa claus and he likes to smoke his pipe outside the bio building. Class was kind of confusing in the lectures, followed the book loosely, tests were okay. I got a B, but it was a struggle.

This guy...he knows his stuff, but his lectures have such poor organization! His readings are all over the book. He explains the answers first, then slips in the original question, so your notes are always *ed up. And his exams are ridiculous. They don't test knowledge, just test taking skills. Sucky class. Memorize the lecture CDs.
