Comment:

Great professor, but definitely a tough class. The entire class is straight memorization of various acronyms and it is quite frustrating. He doesn't baby you, but he tries to do his bit to help. Lecture is tough, you will have to teach yourself mostly everything. Only class where I had no idea what was happening in class.

Comment:

I didnt attend this class at all, yet I still made A's on every test and the final. The key to this class is memorizing the powerpoints. Do not waste your time on the book, and make sure you are able to recall every slide from memory. I can't say much about the class since I didnt go to lecture, but the tests were fair and were literally the slides

Advanced cell is hard, so be ready for that. Record his lectures and listen to them outside of class. You only need to study the power points. He makes the class fun and relatable and I didn't expect to enjoy the class as much as I did. Be prepared for free-response only exams. Dr. Griner is a really cool guy.

Comment:

Hardest class I've ever taken. Dr. Griner gives amazing lectures and he clearly tells you what is going on. The material itself is very difficult to learn just because there is so much going on. If you want to pass the tests you have to know the details. Test questions are straight forward. Great professor. I would take him again if I could.

Well... I've made all A's through 3 semesters of college. All A's and a D that is because this guy is completely unbelievable. If you want your gpa to drop then take him. This professor is a disgrace to biology TEACHERS. He is a great researcher and a very intelligent man but he does not know how to teach students.

Mr. Griner is honestly a great teacher, but if you are lazy I don't recommend him for you. I failed his class, but it was my fault and not his. I am going to retake his class. Make sure to bring a recorder. Keep all preleture quizzes, outlines, and read the chapter and take your own notes before class. I learned the hard way but I got it this time.

He really loves Biology and it is apparent. His tests are extremely hard. Labs are fun, but the lab exams can be very difficult and some questions are irrelevant. He teaches you as if you are a pro at Bio and expects you to already know the material. I don't know about the rest of you but High School did not prepare me. Never taking him again.

I had Dr. Griner for 1107. He is a difficult professor but you are guaranteed to learn the material well. His teaching is fast-paced, detailed, and is explained very well. I suggest recording his lectures and READ the book. Being the head of the dept, he is busy, so he does not answer e-mails quickly. Just try and track him down in the science hall

Dr. Griner is a very intelligent teacher and helpful as well! but In order to pass his class there are no shortcuts...you must study and not a week before the test like 4 weeks before! His test's info is kind of all over the place because he doesnt go in chronological order so you need to know everything for it!

Professor Griner isn't a bad professor.. he just goes through the material really fast. He puts chapter outlines up for you to print off before coming to class. His test are super hard though. I studied for weeks & made a C on the first two test. You definitely have to be committed to make an A in his class. You will use the textbook. Very nice man

An absolutely amazing professor. Not only is he incredibly smart, he's able to communicate the subject matter in a way that makes it easy to understand. You definitely have to do your part and study, but he gives you the tools. MASSIVE amounts of information, but do-able if you really want to.

OMG! DO NOT TAKE HIM AT ALL COSTS! He absolutely does NOT care about how you do in his class! He will fail you in a heartbeat and not think twice about it! His tests were ridiculous and I never knew what he may ask. This was definately not a typical college class!

Took Immunology & Bacterial Infections. This class and others he teaches are notoriously difficult. That being said, he is an excellent teacher. He is probably not a student favorite because he holds you accountable for learning the information on your own. Tests are all essay. There are no free handouts; it's your education.

Took him this fall for Scientific terminology. This is obviously a class that gets passed around and no one wants to teach it. He seemed too busy to help outside of class if one needed it. Not sure if I would take him for other subjects. Hard to tell based on this 1 credit hour class. No lectures just tests from the book every week.
