Dr. Hume really cares about what he teaches. I hated the content and could've skipped most classes and still done well on the exams, but he has funny stories from when he was growing up in Prescott, AZ. He's a sweet old guy and he lets you use a 3x5 card on exams making them super easy.

This class was very easy. You just have to write a few papers, which he grades very easily, and do two presentations. As long as you don't mind being in front of the class for an hour, its not bad.

Dr. Hume is such a sincerely nice and helpful person, but a really tough grader. He's a great professor though and provided me with a wider understanding of the subject matter. I just wish he eased up on his grading, I never knew what I did wrong; I ended up with a B in his class.

He is very helpull and the nicest prof you will ever have, he is a bit unorganized but just go and talk to him in his office hours and he will give lots of help.

Professor Hume is very passionate about Civil War history. If you are interested you will learn a lot. If you are not it will be difficult. I enjoyed the class and learned a lot. He doesn't grade too hard but remember to site your sources on the exams. Only 3 tests pretty easy.

TIP: Incorporate all readings into essays on the exam to "prove" that you read them! This is the difference between an A and a B in his class. He is a good teacher. Passionate about US history and is full of amusing anecdotes that you will hear at least three times each.

Hume is a really nice guy, and funny at times, but his lectures are completely unorganized and very hard to follow. Go to class, know the assigned readings,go to the review at least for just the essay help, pack your notecard, and good luck with that!

BORING, the civil war relates to everything apparently... tests are cake but they are largley lecture based so go to class, then just type all your notes in 3.5 font and put them on a note card, easy A. He is a nice man but did I mention he is BORING.

He is a great guy, and is really passionate about history. I took US History with him, but if you took a class solely on the Civil War, take him (that's his emphasis).

Oh my god, Hume is the most boring History teacher ever. He makes me wonder if I still want to be a history major. Man, I never want to take US History again.

BORING...unbelievably boring. Smart, and a nice guy by all means, but his lectures are completely unorganized and provide little for learning. Manages to make Civil War a boring topic.
