Dr. Nation is one of the most intelligent and caring professors I have ever had. I had him for 2 classes this semester, one of which was an environment science course. I had missed the other class for 2 weeks and he emailed to check up on me, which was unexpected but greatly appreciated. His course requires work, not gonna lie, but its rewarding.

He says the tests are based on his lectures, but his lectures consist of him talking about his son and about his feelings on U of M. I read the "textbook," and still didn't do great on his tests. The tests are writing heavy, and if you don't share his opinion you get graded more harshly. I'm going to avoid him at all costs.

Where to begin? Picks his fingers all the time, talks almost exclusively about Calvinist theology(?!), has few graded assignments, says attendance doesn't matter but then at the end has you to sign a paper admitting any absences and accepting a downgrade for them. Not a nice person, either. My studymate agrees- he turns off motivated students!

I had prof. nation for History 300 which is a required history major class. He is very extensive and thorough and I feel like he really cares about whether or not his students grasp how to write history. The class is hard, but it's just because of what is taught. This guy knows his stuff!

Very snobby guy. Disses U of M all the time!? Talks about letting you out early but never will. Very few assignments, grading is whether he likes you or not, apparently. I aced everything at EMU but this guy ruined my 4.0... he actually threw a paper back at me in his office when I had him as an advisor. Avoid him if at all possible.

In History 123 (U.S. History), topics discussed are mainly based on a socio-economic standpoint rather than a HISTORICAL standpoint (in a history class). Instead of discussing history as a subject, we talk about the economic and social status of people which is depressing.

He creeped me out. I couldn't understand a lot of what he said. He has interesting points but otherwise didn't explain very much. Also digresses a lot, then you fail the tests. Not all his questions on the Tests are on the Study Guide. He also doesn't tell you when stuff is due.

Agreed. Also he's gross, picks his nails constantly. Too much talk about religion, too. He didn't grade us like he said he would (concepts vs. events), and so I suffered by leaving out things he said he was not interested in! Thanks!

Our class was in agreement that this guy makes you feel dumb, doesn't know how to talk to anyone outside of class, and makes lectures torture. Nation is a brilliant instructor. For a graduate class, the workload was average; but he comes up with well thought out assignments and challenges you to think in creative ways. He is picky about your writing, so pay attention to the clarity and strength of your arguments. Overall, he is a great professor. I highly recommend taking him.

Do not take this professor if you want to do anything else outside this class. He’s very unorganized and your email will be full of stuff he forgets to say in class. Great teacher, very helpful and understanding. work is a bit difficult but as long as you attend a do the reading , test r not hard. papers are hard but if you reseach and start at begging of the course, like he tells you to, you will do fine.

Socially inept, but a really good professor. Tests tend to be based mostly on lecture material and handouts via e-mail. Take good in class notes and you will be good to go on 90% of test material. Occasionally funny even though he is tough to relate talk to.
