very insulting. expects things to be perfect, even though the students in this class are looking to fufull a gen ed requirement and are not aprising artists. gets upset if you're 2 minutes late to a 3 hr class. don't expcet a decent grade unless you paint things how he wants, and put scratches into all your work with a needle tool like he says.

Zakin sucks the fun out of art. His classes are like working on an assembly line and he will not tolerate dissenting opinions. On a positive note, ceramic class attracts lots of pretty girls!

Zakins class is only good if you make what he wants. We don't get to learn as much as other clay classes I've known about, for example...my friend is an undergrad in PA and knows how to fire kilns, mix glaze and mix clay...our hands just get dirty a little, it's unfair and the program should be different.

Zakin is great. Knows glazes and clay mixtures soooo well. He will help students find their places - you just need to put forth interest and enthusiasm and quit your whining and OPEN your mouths! You will disappear if you don't make yourself known and present in his class. This is not a class simply for quiet, shy observers. Be an adult, show some interest and ambition in YOUR own education and you will learn lots from him.

Well I got frustrated when everytime I work on something, he'd criticize my work. In a sense he was saying it was "crap" underneath his words. I thought the art grade was all about development of work, but it seems it's all about what he likes. I spent a lot of extra time on my work, and I still got a C. Nice man, lousy grading.

He's a great guy. does not 'withhold' a single thing. I've approached him with questions on advanced tecniques and got straight forward answers. Very approachable and understanding. Intelligent, wise, and helpful. Involved in his course and craft beyond belief.

Unlike others I broke Zakin's "rules" as a habit and was rewarded with straight A's for it- 10 credits eventually. Great guy who likes to experiment with glazes and technique. Maybe he didn't like the people above????
