What a sweetheart! Dr. Canfield is absolutely adorable on top of being a genuinely amazing professor. He's positively brilliant and truly cares about his students and their learning. His class is easy if you do the readings, and the TAs were great.

Great teacher, very excited about class/ the material. Good pace, keeps things interesting; sometimes tries to cram a little too much info into one class, but if you do the readings (all very interesting), you're fine.

Anthropology and the Modern World. Interesting material, but morning class coupled with his lecture/ppt style teaching was not good. Very sweet. TA did a lot of teaching and all the office hours, grading, creating the tests.

Loved his aside stories, full of cute Canfield stories. Did learn a lot of useful things, Leach, Barth, Bourdieu all very useful. One of the sweetest professors. Hope to take other classes that permit for more of his creativity to show.

such a nice guy. His works and ideas class is really, really boring, but how fun can that material really be. He understands that the material is dry and does his best with it. Meet with him after class to really get anything out of him. Also, his higher level classes are great.

Really nice guy, minimal work.Mr. Canfield has a lot of experience in Afghanistan (he can speak Farsi), Egypt, and the Arabic world. It is an easy class, although it is hard to take notes sometimes. But the topic matters are rather exciting.

Very insightful man, his lectures were not engaging to some, but they really did hit hard at some very important ideas. If you're paying attention, you'll walk away with a lot from an experience with Prof. Canfield.

He is such a nice person and covers some really interesting and worthwhile topics, though the lectures do drag on a bit sometimes. Attendance is required which can be painful at 9 am, but the material you learn makes it worth it.

He is a nice guy. That doesn't make up for the fact that he lapses in and out of sentences. It's IMPOSSIBLE to take notes because he changes his wording so often. Oh and about the grading. He doesn't grade the exams. His TA does and this year (fall 2006) the grading in my opinion was outrageous. Take this class only if you're an Anthro major.

this class is intolerably boring. but, canfield is really nice. and as long as you study really hard the night before the exams, and memorize a bunch of stuff, which is not very difficult, you will get an A.

While Canfield is obviously extremely intelligent, his class is very painful to sit through. He knows what he is talking about, but the class usually doesn't. The readings are pretty hard, the class is really confusing, but the tests/paper are suprisingly not difficult. He seems like a very nice person, but his class is pretty bad.

class is very easy but ridiculously boring. easy to get an A but you have to go to class and sit through the lectures. Canfield is a sweet guy that loves the material, it's not his fault most people hate it. take it for an easy A, but bring something to do in class

The subject material was interesting and the books for the class were great, but Prof. Canfield's lectures were often disorganized and more confusing than helpful. He was more knowledgeable on some subjects than others, which made a big difference in the quality of lectures.

He is such a sweetie. GO AFTER CLASS because he's really nice adn helpful. He's really into what he teaches and definitely knows his stuff. But he is kinda boring to listen to, esp in the morning. If you're interested in the subject, take his classes (otherwise they might be kinda blah for you).

Granted, he is a really nice guy, but that doesn't make up for the fact that he teaches a really boring class. Because he is such an easy grader and makes no demands of the students, there is little motivation to work. Because of this, there are no class discussions and a slow, uninteresting class.
