Dr. Gilson was one of my favorite college professors. He was extremely clear(if you bothered to take notes). He always pushed us to better ourselves and keep learning, whether it was in music or the world around us.

Easy to pass, but you wont get a thing out of him. ive had 2 classes with this guy. He tends to talk about music for 10 to 15 mins. then will start talking about basket ball trust me stay away. i hate sports.

Like some people said he does get distracted and kinda off topic during class. i am def not a music student, jsut took the class for credits, he may seem to be prick to students who don't try or try to test him. but i came to class everyday and barly grasped the basics in the class and got a B. jsut stick with it you'll be good

I had Mr. Gilson as a conductor in the Civic Youth Orchestra for 3 years, and it was the most fun I've had in any orchestra ever. He is ridiculous, inspirational, egotistical, talented, condescending, knowledgeable, disorganized, late, intimidating, even terrifying, but overall wonderful. I had good and bad times, but I will always remember him!

"He uses multi-syllabic words." On the first day he suggested that we get a dictionary. I am honestly not certain if he is an arrogant jerk or just putting on a show of it in order to be funny. He is VERY easily distracted, takes more time on tangents than music, and tends to have little regard for the feelings of the students who are behind.

Fun teacher, a little crazy, but overall fun to be around. Doesn't show up on time (ever!), and is pretty inconsistant. Goes off topic, but has a lot of cool info. Personally i like him, but don't like being taught by him. Easy "A" no problem.

Yes, Mr. Gilson does talk to much. But the man is incredibly smart especially in music. He has an amazing concept of music, though sometimes i question his sanity. Can get picky, but only does it ( as he says) "so the sound we produce matches the one in his head". lol but deffinately a class worth taking....as long as ur ok with talkin..LOTS of it

This man is ridiculous. He is unorganized and often late to his own rehearsals. He feels no remorse for wasting your time, and his conducting is completely assanine. Please i urge any of his students to venture and play with orchestras of higher calibers and you will see what i mean.

He is the most arrogant person I've ever met in my life. One class we talked about music for only 10 minutes (out of 2 hours). The rest of the time he talked about himself. Called a girl stupid and made her angry. She left the class and didn't come back for a while, and insulted a girls religion. You should have no problem passing the class though.

While the music is fun and approipriately challenging, you spend a majority of the class meeting listening to the man talk about sports, things from his past (most recently his trip to Russia,) and other unrelevant rantings. The man LOVES to hear himself speak, and refuses to EVER admit he's wrong about ANYTHING.

Yes it's true. Gilson does spend only 30min of a 2hr class talking about anything and everything unrelated to the subject, but if you can put up with that and you have a good group of people in the class he's a pretty cool dude and it can be fun. He doesn't go on until everyone understands the material. Kind of crazy though. He knows EVERYTHING.
