I actually took Dr. Iltis at Texas Tech about 25 years ago. Just thought of that exp tonight; looked up where he was today. Course listed seems to be the equiv of the one I took with him. I believe he left for OR the sem after that, and I was disappointed, as his was certainly among the toughest but most rewarding classes I took. Def recommend.

He care about the topic and his students. It is very difficult to not pass his class, but many students did not simply because they chose beer over studying. His class will improve your grades in every other class if you pay attention.

Be prepared to work hard. His classes are tougher than other Comm classes, but that's not always a bad thing! He expects a lot from his students but is more than willing to help you out to succeed. Probably the best professor I've had.

This is the third course I've taken from Dr. Iltis. If you expect communication courses to be easy, then he's not for you. Dr. Iltis puts a significant amount of intellectual thought and hard work into his courses, he expects the same from you. The work is challenging but not anything unusual for college.

I understand that this man is very intelligent, but intelligence does not always mean good teaching. His, "lectures" are extremely incomprehensible and the work load is unrealistic. I would strongly suggest not taking classes from Iltis unless you're trying to get a C or D. Bad teacher for how intelligent he his.

For having a PhD in communications he's got the worst communication skills of anyone I've ever met. He promises to email you and NEVER follows through. The class is unnecessarily hard and he uses overheads instead of power points because ?you pay more attention." as a person I like him and he's fun to chat with, but he's not a useful professor.

Dr. Iltis is probably the most intelligent human being I have ever encountered. He is an awesome professor...some of the material is pretty abstract and difficult to grasp, but he's very helpful and understanding.

Dr. Iltis is kinda a goofball and sometimes you are thinking "what the hell is he talking about in class" but he is very passionate about class and wants students to learn. hard course, must read and take as many notes as possible. pay attention to detail. tests are not as hard as you think if you attend class and take notes!

Comment:
Dr. Iltis is very good at what he does. His argumentation class is interesting and a great place for discussion. His lectures are unnecessarily verbose and dull. He likes to use words of 4+ syllables, but will then stumble over the word "is." He's a good teacher and you will learn, you just might not enjoy the process.

Iltis has an unbelievable wealth of knowledge. Has a deep interest in his students and in helping them grasp concpets. Occasionally uses outdated examples, but they are always good for a laugh. Definitely pushes you to use your mind. Is unbelievablly funny once you get past the intimidation...my favorite teacher in the comm department.

I had him for COMM 114 before they made it easier. He worships the Rybackis; listening to him drone on and on is a complete waste of time.

He knows the material very well but has not much else going for him. My TA told us not to be intimidated by this man but I don't know how I would be. He has a large vocab and a low ability to spell. Not a very good teacher in my book.
