Dr. Birt knows NYC very well and is passionate about it. I enjoyed his anthropological viewpoint and particularly how he incorporates Whitman and Crane.

Prof Birt KNOWS his subject material and how he presents it shows how passionate about it he is. He packs a lot of good material into each class, and notetaking is a MUST. Skipping his classes is not a wise decision. His limited "hints" as to what might be on a test complicates things further. A GREAT guy, but no easy "A"s will be given out by him.

Midterm and Final were extremely hard. And there was only a papar and those two tests to determine your grade.

Very passionate about subject matter. TA def slowed things down. The lectures bored me because i wasn't interested in the content and at times he can be confusing. Fair grader and will definitely help you if you seek it.

The worst professor I have ever had! By far! I was very excited to learn about SF. I'm very disappointed and regretful with Birt's "teaching."

Assumes all students live in SF or know it very well. Boring lectures, loves the long boring book and the 4 hour movie (shown on the weekend) he makes optional, but questions about it will be on the final. No field trips!

Goes off on tangents that have nothing to do with the class. Gives unclear instructions about tests, including the weight. Avoid this prof if you can.

Instructor very excited about Art and Photography. With the movie shown, he didn't saw it was required but ended up putting a question for it on the final, which basically means it's required. Film is difficult to get ahold of because it's an old silent film.

Probably one of the most boring classes I have ever taken. I don't think I learned anything of value. Plus, if you're looking for an easy A for this segment 3 class, I'd recommend taking someone else.
