I really don't understand why he was given such a poor rating by so many. This man is BRILLIANT. Sure, he's a little disorganized, and he's harsh when his students expect to be given an A for mediocrity. Get with the program guys--you're at a private school. Act like it.

Comment:

Unfortunately I have to take 3 more classes with the guy. I used to think he was ok, but I dunno, he's very lazy. Lazy about his thesis students, lazy about getting work back, and no one can tell what he's doing all the time. Also his research lab is such a huge mess that it's a a disaster waiting to happen. He writes unnecessarily harsh comments.

Comment:

Nice enough guy, but he doesn't seem to actually enjoy TEACHING. Not sympathetic to student's problems, writes inappropriately mean comments on exams, and is generally kind of useless. Everything comes back to his research which makes you wonder why he is at Reed instead of some large state school.

Ron is a pretty good teacher, but he doesn't quite grasp how people tend to learn things...and he has a volcanic temper. You don't see it much, but sometimes I would expect to see a hole in my lab notebook from where he drove a knife through it. Expect fair grades, but extremely harsh comments on work.
