Truly a great professor and inspiration. Really cares about his students if you showing him you are willing to put in the work to become a successful illustrator. Says it like it is and tells the truth, which will only help you as an artist in the future. Really great guy and one of the funniest teachers you'll ever have!

Sal is a treasure. I recommend having him for at least 1 class in your college career at FIT. He doesn't do any demos, but you use 100% of your class time drawing. He'll give a motivational speech (& make you laugh) in the middle of class. Homework is rare, but very purposeful & fun. Bring your sketchbook/personal projects to him for good critique.

Absolutely loved him, honestly, if you are going to be majoring in illustration in FIT, I really recommend that you take his courses (like try to take at least one if not all). Compared to other professors, the dudes got a ton of experience in the field and has taught some famous, current professionals. You will learn a lot from him. :)

I LOVE Sal! He is an amazing teacher. On the first day he seems like a scary guy, but he is funny and has a heart of pure gold. He cares for his students deeply and will do anything he can to help you improve. Halfway through the class he will give an inspiring and funny speech. Rarely need to use the textbook, its more recommended for personal use

He tells you how it is, and how to improve it. He's been in the field and have been a successful one as well, so if you want to take a teacher who actually knows how it works take him. Stop being whiny punks because you can't handle his critics, if you can't handle his critics how are you going to handle the actual field?

Sal is my favorite professor at FIT! He's very helpful and he cares so much about his students. He gives great critiques, he is very truthful. I took two classes with him and I loved them both. He gave us a lot of freedom and showed us different mediums like silverpoint and quill pens. If you work hard in his class you will get a good grade.

Comes off as a little gruff in the beginning, but legitimately cares about you and your progress. Ask him for help when you need it; he'll go the extra mile. Never gave any homework and was extremely conscious of other commitments students might have. One of the best professors in his department.

Great professor! He challenges me as a student, artist and in character. He tells you how things really are and doesnt beat around the bush when it comes to being an artist as a professional. He has years of experience in many different parts of the art field. Teaches you good tips and useful techniques to help you in all your classes.

Sal is like my own grandfather to me. He is the best professor I've had and he's taught me so much. He's funny and knows what he's talking about. He teaches you so much in such little time. He really has a good eye and wants you to do your best. He's so well liked that switching to his classes are basically impossible! If you have Sal, rejoice!

This guy is awesome. He's there for students, he looks out for you, and he's funny as all get out. I learned more in his class on one project than I did in all my other classes combined, because he actually sits down and teaches you rather than just has you flat-out DO. He's awesome, nice and super fun. Definitely a great teacher.

Words can not describe how much I love this man. Beyond inspirational. He talks a lot about how students are lazy and can't draw well, but thats what makes you get up off your lazy butt and draw until you prove him wrong. He's the reason I'm 20x better than when I first started. He cares so much and will always be there, but only if allow him to be

Sal loves his students. That's a fact. However, sometimes he is helpful and other times not so much. Sometimes he seems more interested in talking about how great he is and how "he can do this 'cause he's a professional but you can't yet". Love him. But sometimes I wish I could have him answer my question instead of just talking about himself.

He's a very nice, funny guy. But recently he is far more interested in getting his class to protest the Illustration Department's "Digital" classes, to keep things traditional. Which is okay, but because of this, he is distracted, and I don't learn much from him anymore.

Had him for figure drawing and he is an excellent teacher, you’ll learn a lot from him. His figure drawing classes are taught like a fine arts class not an illustration class but still your drawing skills will improve under him.

Sal is THE professor to have as an illustration major. Sure he curses a lot, but it's never at you; it's just kind of laced within his normal speech pattern. As long as you respect him, make an effort in his class, he'll return that tenfold. I've had some amazing conversations with the guy, and I can't wait to have him again next semester!
