I personally love Sandy and would recommend his class. He is exceptionally smart and likes to teach. His content is difficult but if you attend class and do the assigned homework problems/ask questions, you should have no problem getting an A. I have always loved math and Sandy is one of my favorite professors.

Sandy is a very smart man but he taught so students were supposed to learn how and why certain formulas/strategies work without him explicitly explaining it. This would work if the subject matter weren't already confusing enough. He does his best to answer all Qs but he's often hard to follow and makes a TON of mistakes. Harsh grader as well. Avoid

He won't be a good teacher for everyone. I personally did very well in the class but many people struggled especially if they hadn't taken calculus before. He can come off as condescending at times but if you just ignore it and ask your questions regardless you'll get a clear and helpful explanation. Show up and study hard and you'll be just fine.

Must have a general understanding of Calc 1 BEFORE taking this class. Very heavy on differential equations. Don't recommend if you're not a good self-study. Grade is 50% quizzes, 50% final.

Awful teacher. If you did not have calculus in high school do not take his class. He uses his own methods to teach and your grade is solely based on tests designed by him. Awful.

Not very helpful outside of class &doesn't offer extra credit. Came in with 3 yrs of Calc experience &knew all the material but performed poorly because of my test anxiety and he wasn't helpful at all. Makes everything more complicated than it needs to be, and tells you to learn things his way when there's and easier way. Quizzes 50%, final 50%

Took him in my first college semester and thought I was going to pass with a B but got a C+ after the final. Try to take a different professor. I practiced and participated, and even went to his office hours a few times. He's a cool guy but I would not have taken his class if I had the choice. But don't fret if you have to; just practice.

Sandy Blank makes up math terms, teaches you things in round about ways, and then lets you know you were learning derivatives etc. all along.

I personally didn't struggle in his class. I had a great calc teacher in high school so my foundations in the subject were very strong. However, if math isn't your strong point I wouldn't recommend Blank. He barely teaches in class, you basically teach yourself the material by struggling through the hw. But if you can do that the class is fine.

Comment:
Blank does not know how to effectively teach calculus. He often gets example problems wrong, and his students are forced to correct his math multiple times per class. You're better off just reading the textbook and teaching yourself. As lon as you can do the practice problems, though, the quizzes are a breeze.

Comment:
Sandy is not a helpful person. He is very disrespectful and generally not approachable. Usually spends the first 20 min of class on attendance the next 30 doing hw problems and then crams a whole lecture into the last 10 min. His quizzes aren't bad as long as you can do the assigned problems. If you cant teach yourself math it wont be an easy class

To get an A in this course you MUST do the homework and do it well. Take your time on the homework, and then the quizzes should be fine. The quizzes are pretty easy and its fairly easy to get an A for the class. The final is much harder than the quizzes, but doable if you know your stuff. If you are in honors and can take non-honors I recommend it

Prof. Blank is a really funny and nice guy, and extremely helpful when asked. This does not mean his class is easy.. his quizzes are difficult and are 50% of the grade, with each quiz worth more than the last. The final is the other 50%. He makes the material clear and is always willing to explain things as many times as you want.

I loved Sandy! The comments on here scared me at first and the first day of class he even acknowledged that people thought he was mean. His jokes are funny, and he's a really nice guy. He doesn't mind joking around during class. While his quizzes are hard, he's always available in his office. Sandy's one of my favorite teachers at NU :)

I had Prof. Blank for Calc&Diff Eq for Bio 1 and 2 my freshman year. He is definitely the hardest of the teachers for this class, but you will actually learn the material. Go to class and do the homework because the quizzes come directly from these two things. He is actually pretty funny and his hats were always entertaining.
