Very picky about how she wants souces, the link can't be super long, and can't be in a url shortener, so if you find a good source with a long url you're out of luck. No chance to talk to her after class due to her having to prepare for the next one, email responses take several and offices hours by request only. Creates a problem when no response

She's a fantastic teacher, assignments are pretty well explained and interesting/engaging. Taught me a lot I didn't know about writing. She isn't the easiest grader, but she gives specific feedback and overall really cares about your learning.

If you want to learn about writing, she will help you but she will make you earn your grade. Really pays attention to grammar details but will notice if you work hard. If you take her class, I suggest going to the writing center before handing in your final drafts. She will pick up on papers that you didn't put effort into.

Fantastic Professor. Learned more in the first week of her class than I did all though high school. Most of the essays are quite flexible. College level work is expected... duhh. Strict due dates, 100% correct formatting, and you can't really b/s an essay. Unlike some of your other professors, Backer will not be a waste of your time or money.

If you're attending college to gain an education, take Backer. If you're attending college to waste your parents money, maybe she isn't the teacher for you. You'll learn so much and it's not too difficult. Highly recommended.

Good teacher. Has a sense of humor, some jokes are funny, some aren't. Very specific on what she wants. Only gives four essays plus the final which isn't alot compared to the required curriculum. If you have a class clown, it helps alot. I'd take her again if it fit my schedule. I actually learned things in her class and became a better writer.

This was an extremely insightful class. Spent a lot of time on discussions. I would take another class from this professor in a second. She had actually sent our class an email to suggest another class she was teaching, but unfortunately I wasn't able to take it. If you like smart-witty humor, you will like Prof. Backer.

If you take Ms. Backer's writing class, you will learn to be a better writer. There are 4 essays given throughout the semester. She grades them fairly, but still gives you a chance to revise your essays and improve your grade. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to learn to write better.
