Comment:
If you want to do something in the medical field, Gunn is the professor to take. An A is definitely achievable. I managed to get an A. Yet you have to work for it, like all other classes. Study ppts (multiple choice portion of the exam) and attend SI (if you can't attend, get the work from a friend), for open ended portion. 25 MC, 6 O.E questions.

Scott has ton's of positive vibes and good energy. He has good feng shui making him a state of the art professor. Although its hard work, he expects us to do hard work because in everyday life we are expected to work hard, and Dr. Gunn's class is no exception. He values hard work, making him a special professor.

Although Scott's lectures were very dry. I got an A, and that's because I hardly went to the SI sessions, took good notes, came to every class and never skipped. Scott's material was no match for me. He also makes deals, so you can boost your grade, take the extra credit. Scott is a real gem.

Definitely one of the hardest classes I have taken. His class is extremely lecture heavy and he literally just reads off of the ppt slides in a rush which makes it overwhelming. His exams are TOUGH. 50% of the exam is open ended and requires INTENSE memorization. If you don't go to the SI you will not pass the class.

The lectures do not really help you. You have to do much of the learning on your own to understand the concepts. Go to the SI sessions for the free response questions that will be on his exams. Study them a week in advance and you should ace the open ended. It is exactly the same on the test. Write everything you know for open ended. Be specific!

Hardest class with a very hard professor. Get ready to study for weeks. The exams are extremely hard with free response requiring intense memorization and you can't BS your way through it. You NEED to go to SI sessions of you will not pass the free response. He tells you nothing in class while the SI teaches you. Ridiculously hard. Try to avoid him

Although it's hard to get an A, it isn't impossible. Go to class and pay attention. He has 4 exams, a collective homework grade that counts as a 5th exam. Lab is 25% so do well in lab! 25MC and 6FRQ. it is essential to go to SI for FRQ. Memorize the ppts for MC part. Study, don't slack off, and you should be okay. He's not ridiculously hard.

You have to really study to get the "A". ALWAYS attend SI sessions!! The SI basically fed me the answers to the FRQ sections of the exams which I had to make sure to memorize. MC portion of exams - i just basically memorized PPTs. Not the hardest class - just a ton of memorization and practice (esp. in frq section).

Let me start by saying making an A is possible but very difficult. There are 4 tests and homework assignments. His tests have around 25 questions and 6 free response questions. The multiple choice comes straight from the powerpoints and most of the free response are from SI packets. Make sure you do good in your lab, it's 25% of your grade.

He is difficult hard to understand sometimes and the test are not easy even though you study its still hard . Nothing he covers is on test 80% I was really looking forward to the class greatly disappointed and reality is he don't care. I paid freeking 1000 dollars for this class. Lectures are boring and long.

Do not take this class instead use an alternative course. Lectures are long & boring and his exams are confusing with hardly any time to finish. SI helps but aside from that the class is difficult. This has been one of the hardest courses I have taken thus far.

Got an "A". Memorize powerpoints before he lectures them, pay attention in lecture, and attend at least half of SI or get notes from someone who attends them. Do this there is NO reason to fail, and if you do it well an "A" is very possible. This class requires a lot of dedication; while Dr. Gunn is nice he wont hold your hand through the class!

Very difficult course but interesting subject matter. He doesn't want people to get A's in his class. he makes deals with people for better grades but his tests are impossible. You could easily spend 2 wks studying and make a C. You could have the right answer but if its not in his words then its wrong. No such thing as partial credit, TRUST ME.

This is one of the toughest classes I have taken. I did learn quite a bit, and Im happy about that. I dont feel his exams reflect on the amount of knowledge I have. The tests are lengthly, detailed and your figthing the time crunch as well. He only goes oer the essay problems once, so PAY ATTENTION. If you want to pass you must make the SI seesions

You will learn Genetics from this class! This class is good prep for your MCAT. However the tests can be extemely difficult if you don't put certain focus on certain subjects. Problem is the subject he may pick could be anything he's gone over and leave out entire problems or subjects from the test. Do well on test one, its all downhill from there.

Makes an interesting boring, all the material he lectures is really outdated, (what he learned in grad school.) His powerpoints and lectures are like alphabet soup, words are there but they just don't make any comprehensive sense. Memorize and you should do fine.

He teaches straight fron the power points but the exams can still be tricky. The long answer questions you can find in old exams in the LAC, but the multiple choice questions come from the power point and are not too hard. Lab was more difficult but I did get a TA hat lked to teach and grade harder to the students to study more.

I agree with the previous comment in studying the powerpoints at least five days in advance. The book is not terribly needed, except for the occasional homework. Go to the and LAC, get his practice exams, and make sure you can answer each one of the free response. You'll be fine if you do these things; an A is very possible! :)

Study all the Power Point lectures at least a week in advance if you want to get a B or an A on the exams. Spend time solving short answer questions from old exams too. His exams are loaded and you'll find yourself rushed for time. Although he is a great prof, don't be fooled by his humor and easy going demeanor because grades his exams tough.
