This is the best class you will ever take. Shanshan makes each class exciting and interesting. Projects are fun. She is extremely passionate about the subject. As long as you study the very clear study guide for the midterm and final you will do fine.

I really enjoyed this beginning cultural anthro class. Professor Du is so kindhearted and supportive. The assignments sometimes lack clear instructions, but she wants her students to do well. She uses great videos and tries to include relatable cultures to get students more engaged. I decided to major in anthro because of this class! Def. recommend

Expect to read a lot for the class although the readings are usually interesting. Grades consist of KinshipChart,Midterm,Final, and Mini-ethnography which is about 8 pgs worth. You have to choose a place and observe and write about its culture. Tests are usually straightforward. It wasn't a bad class but I don't know if I would take her again.

Prof. Du is one of the most helpful professors I've ever had. She wants everyone to do well and although her class sometimes feels like high school (there are assignments on which EVERYONE gets an A), her lectures are very interesting and she genuinely loves what she teaches. She also has many fascinating personal experiences she likes to share.

I took Cultural Anthropology and it's an easy A. With only a midterm, small project, final, and paper, the class doesn't require much outside work. She's a very generous grader and truly cares about her students.

I love her! At first it was hard to understand her haeavy accent, but now that I know what she is saying I enjoy everything she says. She throws alot of information on the table but it generally easy and the tests are very reasonable. I recommend this class!!!

Professor Du is a great professor. She is super nice, always willing to talk, and makes classes interesting with video clips, skits, pictures, etc. She also brought the whole class chinese food, and we had a picnic outside! I had heard such good things about her, so my expectations were high. She definitely surpassed them, which floored me!

I took her Contemp. China class. Shanshan is quite possibly the best professor at Tulane. She is crystal clear about what she expects from you, is passionate about what she teaches, makes class interesting and as if that weren't enough - she bought us Chinese food and snacks TWICE this semester. I highly recommend taking one of her classes.

I definately recommend Professor Du for ANY anthro class. She makes the class interesting, and is extremely approachable. She is not a hard grader, but requires a lot of reading and work from her students. She is my fav professor at Tulane.
