I was a non-trad no chem before went to ask for help, just asking, "what kind of extra work can I do to understand the material better"? Her reply, "if you are too stupid for this class drop"! lecture 3 homework problems (done one way) No wonder some student think her lectures are organized (straight from her homework) Homeworktests do not match

CHEM 111 wasn't easy, but is doable if work and find people to study with. I got an A on every test, but a D on the final. Not sure how that happened, but still got an A overall. If you gather the principles of chemistry from the lectures and then apply those to the math, you will be ok, but you won't get by if you just memorize processes.

This class is brutal and I'm pretty sure the prof delights in the tears of undergrads. Beware Sharon the Hut.

Her lectures are concise, and her math is clear IF you think the same way she does. She rarely reviews material, and honestly she doesn't really seem to care how students do in the class.

She makes this class exceedingly difficult. You'll do well on the homeworks and then get blindsided on the exams. Another professor usually teaches Chem111 in the spring; try taking it from him instead. Hutchinson will crush any passion you have for chemistry by making it as boring as she possibly can.

This teacher is the biggest b*t*h! the lectures are well structured but there is so much information presented that I felt like it was overload. It also doesnt help that she acts like she has one of her chemistry beakers in her ass.

Don't let yourself get behind because if you do you're going to have a very hard time getting caught back up. Her tests are very hard compared to the homework but if you do well on the homeworks (which are, for the most part, easy) and labs then you can afford to mess up some on tests.

You need to work hard in this class. The lectures are very well organized and easy to follow, though she's always seemed willing to answer questions if you have any. You also need to take excellent notes and I wouldn't recommend using the lecture supplements. All of the work is very doable if you are willing to work at it.

I loved Sharon Hutchinson's chem class! I have been a professional Microbiologist since 1995 a day doesn't go by that I don't praise her for teaching me how to use dimensional analysis effectively. Work harder students. Her class was one of the most useful classes I ever had in undergrad.

Absolutely the worst prof I have ever had in my life. Gives simple examples during lectures (which makes boring look fun, and then gives the hardest possible problems on the homework. After mastering the homework, one would think they would then be adequately prepared for the tests. NOPE! Seriously, avoid this teacher. AVOID!

The worst class and the worst teacher I've ever had! I will never take another chemistry class, or show any interest in chemistry every again. She refused to help outside of class, and wouldn't email me back. Told us all to direct questions to lab TAs... mine didn't speak very much English! Poor teacher! Bad attitude! And needs a new style of shirt

the spawn of satan, you think you know what you are doing, pay attention, take notes, and then all of sudden you flunk the test, why do you think there is a twelve point standard curve in her class that she publishes as her grading system. aced the labs, flunked the classes multiple times

I am glad I took Chem050 before taking this class. I hated the labs but she made this class the "weed out" class for engineers. I ended up with a 'C' but I fought hard for it.

helpful, always answers questions (from what ive seen). the course material can be difficult at times, but that is to be expected. she explains the material very well; i cant really remember a time when i left lectures confused, and even then she answered my questions. overall a very good teacher, if you do your homework and attend the lectures.

If you go to the lecture and do the online homework, the classes are pretty easy. The way she structures class (online homework, review sessions, recitation) helps in understanding the material.

Beware this class. Take Chem 101 instead, then test OUT OF Chem 050 and go directly into chem 111. This works; you don't need her asperity in the classroom.

She is fair but very tough. That's why they call her "The Hutch". I think many have failed her classes.
