I have never done bad in any of my classes before, but I almost failed this one and others will say the same. Her exams are not straight forward and are difficult to pass even with the curve. BEWARE OF THIS CLASS DO NOT TAKE IT WITH THIS PROF. The first day of class she said it's the class with the highest rate of failing students, now i know why.

Great professor, she really knows what she is talking about and she really encourages her students to attend her office hours which are helpful. She can be very monotonic which makes it hard to pay attention especially when the class is 3 hours. Tests are not hard if you pay attention/study, they are multiple choice. She drops lowest test score.

Very helpful teacher, if you're not lazy, as with most classes, you'll do fine. Most of the people who posted average or lower than average comments did not realize that she would cater to the students needs to help them learn this important subject. It is very rare you get a professor that wants you to learn the material and cares for students

Professor Svorny is the reason i love economics. She teaches in a way that shows the relevance economics has on the world. It shows that she has a passion for what she teaches. Pay close attention to her lectures, ask questions, and engage in the class.

She explains really well. Allows for group discussion and welcomes questions. She explains very well and although she has her strong beliefs she really knows what she is talking about. She helps make you a better critical thinker especially about public policies. Do your work and go to class. The test is basically her reasoning.

Her exams are essay (6 are given and you have to choose 5)...first exam had extra credit too, which is nice but at the same time the study guides are over 100 questions long so I had a hard time deciding what to study. Overall just study and ask a bunch of questions! She is willing to explain but sometimes the concepts get confusing

Svorny is a great teacher. Her exams are not difficult (?'s come straight from study guide)and she curves. I think some people just cant grasp econ concepts easily and they blame it on her. Attendance is not mandatory and no homework is a plus! Study guide is long so I picked 5 ?'s per chapter. Got an A on both exams.

Seems difficult but not extremely hard to pass. I bought the book but only read 5 pages of it. I thought I was going to fail the midterm and paper but ended up getting a B. Only studied about two hours the night before the midterm. But her study guide IS ridiculous for a test that consists of only 6 specific essay questions.

What kind of teacher makes a study guide of 5 chap, each 14 questions long, and each answer filling almost an entire piece of paper?! Oh and to top it off there are only 5 written questions on the final. There is no hw , no quizzes. What am I supposed to study? And she wonders why the majority of the class did poorly on the first exam.

Professor Svorny is a caring and hardworking professor who truly wants her students to learn. Anyone who thinks she is boring, hard, or eager to catch plagiarism probably tries to take the easy way out in her class, & probably spent more time on this review than her class. Put the work in when the subject is hard. That's what school is about.

Really hard grader. I got an A on the first test and I got an F on my paper. She has really high expectations from her students. Class is interesting, but once you do the study guide, you lose interest. Overall, I'm a B average in her class.

This professor is terrible. I have taken two classes of hers and at the very beginning of both classes (totally separate classes) she said, "This is the highest failing class at the school." The highest because it must reflect on her teaching. She also constantly asks the class if she is doing something wrong. Her grade.. F.

Grade was determined by 3 tests consisting of 4 or 5 essay questions and one paper. The material is kind of difficult, but she is very helpful if you just take the time to visit her office hours or even just email her. I enjoyed the class.

She went above and beyond to help us with our work. She even came to our review session that we students put together. She came in on a Saturday and was there for about an hour and a half. I do not know many professors willing to do that. She is a tough grader, but I did learn a lot in her class. I would recommend taking her.

Horrible Professor. Avoid by all means. 4 exams + final. Final was cumulative (12 chapters). Final was worth about 40% of the grade. She encouraged going to SI but that was prob. cuz she knew she couldn't teach the material anyways. Told me in office hours right before the final there was no hope of me passing the class and I'd have to retake it.

Do not recommend this teacher.Svorney has a very unfair grading system on exams in which she basically looks for vocabulary words that she uses in her lectures, and if you don't use these vocab words in your answers she will mark you down heavily. Barely passed with a C, glad i don't have to take her again!

Very Disappointed. Some of my old classmates spoke highly of her as an Econ professor, but this was a Marketing Econ class, which she had never taught before. Everything on the tests were out of the book, making the lectures pointless. The questions themselves were overly specific, not measuring your overall understanding. Not a critical thinker.

You gotta read ALL the chapters on your own before every lecture to make sure you get it! Her lectures are so boring and its so hard to listen to her all the time. 4 exams and 1 final. Great curve. After she got the teacher evaluations, she made the final extremely hard and it was out of 300 points. Study on your own to pass this class!

I pretty much taught everything to myself by reading the book or powerpoints. She is terrible at lecturing and doesn't know how to explain anything. She has to teach herself how to do problems in the middle of class. If you aren't good at learning by yourself then avoid.
