Nicest man I've ever met, let alone a University professor. Passionate as hell about the subject matter, and actually studied with some of the scholars we researched. Not like any history class you could imagine taking; it's almost like learning the culture and social norms as well. Best Prof i've ever had.

Very nice guy, but does not give marks back, does not give feedback on topics for essays. Marks are based solely on two presentations and a term paper. You will not know how you did until you get your marks back via beartracks. Does not give straight answers to questions and will take about 10 minutes to NOT answer your question.

He is an exemplary educator - an impeccable scholar and an incredible human being. His kindness to students is only surpassed by his knowledge of the subject area.

Very nice man. Terribly boring class, though i know others that have liked it a lot. Understands that his accent is hard to understand, so he writes on the board a lot, but his writing is also incomprehensible. Easy enough class if you do any reading at all. I did no reading and could barely understand the lecture and still got a 6.

He was extremely nice but I found his lectures too quiet. I sometimes had trouble hearing him, especially through his accent. I also thought that the course content was interesting but he didn't make it terribly exciting

Wonderful professor. A night class with prof Vinh is the best way to end the day! He's so knowledgeable on Japanese history, and having a minimal background in the language really helps in the class.

He's a prof who tries to ease your mind in his class since he considers the rest of university life as stressful enough. He adds to this by not having a research paper for his 300 level courses. His knowledge of Japanese, Chinese, and Korean history is impeccable.

Incredibly knowledgeable about Japanese History and very respected internationally in his field. He's an amazing person. Very long-winded about off-topics, but will only test what he's said in class. Tells you exactly what will be on exam.

He knows the content VERY well. English is his 3rd language, so you have to cut him some slack on his thick accent. Once you learn to get past that, its a great course with a pretty easy exam (he tells you ahead of time EXACTLY what will be tested).
