Stephan is a great guy! He is very helpful in the lab. I had him in ELEX 1105 and 2125. Yes, he is strict with how you do stuff but it's for your own good. He teaches you good lab habits that you will need for later courses. He can be a tough marker but reasonable. I've learned so much from him.

I have no grudge against Stephen, but he can be racialist and a bully sometimes. He would tensionally pick on me because my other colleague are caucasian and I am asian and he would always gives negative feedback instead of positive feedback. However, I still pass his lab.

I have Stephan for my C Programming and Circuit lab instructor (ELEX 2125 and ELEX 2105). He is very helpful and wants his students to do well. He is very knowledgeable however sometimes he can grade very hard especially in C programming.

He explains what you have to do, but does not help if you get stuck. He seems to think that by not getting it from the first time, then you are dumb. and he makes you feel that way too. If i had the chance to get another instructor, i would.

Most of the bad comments here are just dumb term 1's who never passed. I agree though Smolar can be a di ck, he's willing to make assumptions and yell at you for something instead of thinking or asking you why you did it. Definitely has the effort to teach, potentially being the best inst., but arrogance gets in the way.

In Circuits, he isnt entirely knowledgeable. He is hard to please and often interrupts students.But in C Programming he's awesome.His past experience in programming really shines, and he is good at explaining the "do's an don'ts" in the lab.Definitely have him for a C Prog lab instructor.

USELESS. Continuously (like, more often than not) makes huge errors in what he's trying to explain, offers no useful help whatsoever. Continuously yelling at people for no good reason, and doesn't know his stuff at all, to boot. Circuit was marked as "not working" on a lab exam. I disputed, he re-tested it and said "Oh, it does work!" USELESS!

This man is a genius, ahead of his own time if you will. Check out what i learned from him: an inductor does not have flux...no no...its called FLEX! Also did you know a transistor actually only conducts DC and no AC at all? genius...pure genius.
