Don't miss a single lecture - you don't know what you have missed. Outside of calculus, Professor Gonek introduces a lot of inspiring and advanced mathematical topics (the continuum hypothesis, Kakeya's needle problem, etc.). Of course, he organized the lessons so well that he had time to do so!

Steve Gonek is an incredible professor. He is extremely smart, yet also super approachable and hilarious. The class material is hard, but he does his best to teach it and help you learn. He also tells incredible stories at the end of each chapter and is a really genuine guy. Definitely don't pass up on the chance to take a class with him!

Comment:

Professor Gonek is my absolute fave! The class itself is pretty hard, but the curves are generous and the grade policy is pretty nice too. Homework is a really important part of the course, and it's not stuff that wolfram can help you out with, so be ready to put in a few hours every week. Also, his stories are super funny (and kinda weird).

This man is amazing! He is very funny and he has the most unique stories. At the end of every class he tells stories about his life that are not too funny, but he makes them funny because he is funny. In conclusion he is FUNNY! Also explains stuff very detailed, which is good. Very helpful, you just have to ask him and study.

oh mann, if at all possible, take a class with doctor steve...he is a god...teaches so that you LEARN, and that you are interested in the material, not so that you memorize things and worry about them...his grading policy (see below) makes the class stress free and manageable, despite having more difficult content than other classes

Gonek is by far the best professor I had my freshmen year, he is extremely funny during class and very enthusiastic about the material. At times he has problems explaining things on the fly, but has never failed to provide clarity by the end of a lecture. His grading policy is "I like to give A's and B's" Was nominated for professor of the year

He sometimes has trouble explaining things he considers obvious, but other than that, he does a great job of teaching the material. And he's hilarious. He also chooses very interesting and challenging problems for homework, if you're into that. I highly recommend.
