Dr Merritt was defienetly one of the reasons I majored in history. He cared about the students, and I believe that got the UC bureaucracy angry. UCR made a big mistake on Dr Merritt, because this man knew his material, and most importantly, he taught the classes in the best ways possible.

I just have to say that this guy was the best teacher ever!!! And I'm sad to have just found out he is gone. All I can say is that if you ever needed clarification, this is the guy you can count on. Class was easy as long as you studied and he didn't require you to do extremely difficult. He did have some challenges in his class, but he was fair.

I had him for a few of my classes and all I can say is I love him so much for everything that he taught. UCR was stupid to get rid of him. He cared about his students which is a reason why UCR decided to get rid of him. I am a 100% History Russian major becuase of this man.

Alot of people complain about his MC formatting but I still did well. He's overall a good professor. He's a bit monotone but he still knows his material. He also fought for his students over corrupt UCR politics and to me that's very admirable. Shame on UCR for what they did to him. I hope he continues teaching at a better school.

Best History professor I have ever had. I am majoring in history now because of him. Extremely interesting lectures. I have noticed that his tests are not as hard for those that actually read and pay attention; for those that DO NOT, they usually do bad.

This guy is a JOKER... the definition of "pseudo-intellectual"... Gives a White male, "History Channel" version of History that glorifies warfare and violence and short on truth... it will be clear to you that he has major traumas

Professor Merritt was supposed to teach a course on twentieth century world history, however, he overlooked large parts of the world, was boring, violent and uninformative. If you want to take a class on Russian history enroll in Merritt's 20th cent.
