Stu is a very personable teacher, who can be hilarious as well as get the point across for his lectures (with or without his loud voice). The homework load isn't too bad (avg: 1/wk), but if you miss class or his lectures then you might be hurting. Stu definitely knows his stuff, and he can explain things in different ways if it doesn't make sense.

Stu's great, covers material well and seems to possess a genuine concern for students learning the material. Coursework isn't terribly difficult but there is a small gap between the homework and full mastery of the material, so some self study is recommended to help sharpen skills, though this may just come with the nature of the material

Stu's very boisterous; tends to make a lot of crass jokes but still gets the lecture material across. Personally I find him hilarious but maybe that's not your cup of tea. I took this after 2 years away, so it was somewhat challenging but he makes himself very reachable outside of class for assistance. I think I only opened the textbook twice.

Stu is the best teacher I've had in my entire life. Never have I felt so challenged, yet capable in a class. I have taken him for 4 CS classes now knowing full well that I am going to be in for a heavy work load, but if you want to learn the material and get the most out of your tuition, pic Stu. He is also hilarious and keeps the class interesting

While Stu may be a little brash and loud, his inclusive teaching style and tendency to cut to the chase makes the class engaging and the material incredibly clear. He gives plenty of assignments but is willing to help at all times. Stu gives you back what you put in - showing motivation will earn you real feedback and preparation for the future.

Stu is awesome!!! Best CS teacher I have ever had. Be prepared to have TONS of assignments, but it was fun (for me)! He definitely loves class participation, so be prepared to be called out. Definitely going to take more classes from him in the future.

Stu is literally the best teacher I have had at EWU so far. Yes, his classes are difficult, but Comp Sci is incredibly demanding and all he does is prepare you for the difficult journey that is a CS degree. His teaching style is brash and loud, but he explains the material so clearly and with the needed depth. EWU needs more teachers like him.

Stu is one of the BEST LecturersProfessors I have taken, he takes genuine interest in MOTIVATED students, and is always ready and willing to help. Anyone that does not share this opinion is clearly lacking in something, and he will be the first to let you know whether or not he thinks you are prepared to enter any industry related to CS.

He will help you, but he's by far, beyond the shadow of a doubt, the most ridiculous grader i have ever seen. NO late assign are accepted, he assumes that everyone in the class has a perfect understanding of what he is teaching. (despite the fact you only get 1 qtr of C programming before that). Lastly be prepared for HOURS of work EVERY NIGHT.

Class was really fun, his lectures are hilarious but also packs in a ton of info for a 50 minute class period. Gave us 7 Homeworks and 21 labs, varying in length quite a bit, but is a lot of work. If you want to learn the stuff, you should pick him.

You hear a lot of horror stories about Stu before experiencing him first hand. That he is difficult or unfair. I've had no such experience with him. Stu's personality is large and in charge. He is fun, entertaining, and more than willing to go the extra mile provided you do the same for his class. He knows his stuff, and you will too by the end.

Stu is very personable. He is very excited about teaching, and that rubs off on you. Unless you are extremely callus, you will enjoy yourself in his class. His assignments are difficult, but well written. Read them multiple times and you'll be fine. Be ready to work, and have fun writing code!!!

Initially a conceptually difficult class. Expect to put 20+ hours a week into assignments to do well, any less and you will struggle. Stu does a good job of explaining in class, but can often be a little unclear in assignment directions.

Stu is a fantastic teacher. The reason why I put a 3 on easiness is because the workload is immense. However Stu is very clear and easy to follow in his directions. In addition he is extremely well versed in the material he is teaching

Comment:
Stu is very much about operant conditioning and Kantian retribution, so he has a very low tolerance for students that make mistakes. He does have the high school mentality as well. That being said, Stu does care about teaching and you learning. Once you prove yourself to him, he will help you out and be approachable.
