Hill is a pretty chill dude. His class wasn't particularly fascinating but he occasionally says funny stuff if you're paying attention. The paper is kinda rough but it's not the worst thing i've ever had to write.

Professor Hill is a very nice man, and is willing to answer all questions you might have. However his teaching style is just so confusing, his slides are broad and the content of his lecture is delivered in a difficult to understand way. The 10 page paper wasn't fun and exams are long but it's not the worst class I've ever had by a long shot.

The class was boring. Only take if you are interested in the subject. 2 midterms and 1 paper. The paper you have a long time to prepare. The exams were different because you have to use what you have learned into actual situations and explain the outcome for example. I think he is a tough grader.

This Professor is soooo BORING! He's a nice man, but he is not the best professor. I hate his slides because they are tremendously vague and he constantly goes on rants, so the majority of the time I have no idea what we are supposed to be getting from his slide.

Professor Hill is pretty chill and straightforward with his lectures. Go to class and do the reading and it was be an easy A. Go to your TA or the prof. about the term paper and they will tell you exactly how to write it; and you get a rewrite. Pretty hard to do badly in this class.

I regret staying in this class. He can turn a pretty easy concept into two confusing lectures where he'll rumble and show unintelligible slides. All over the place. Will teach numerous specific concepts and examples, but will only test on broad general topics. Most people failed the midterm (I didn't and still think he is bad). Paper was too long.

Extremely clear lectures (take good notes because that's what his exams are based on). Nice guy, definitely teaches the material well.

Easy class when you read the assigned readings. He rambles, but then again, he's very intelligent and approachable if you need any clarification. Best part of the class was the Ta Heather Z. She's one of the best TA's i've ever had.

Very smart guy who obviously knows what he's talking about, but he tends to ramble in lecture and if you want to do well, you really have to go to ALL the lectures and do mostly ALL of the reading, which is a lot. also the final and the midterm are mostly essay questions which come across as bafflingly vague if you don't know your stuff.

I felt so lost in this class when I didn't read the assigned reading before the class it was due for. READ BEFORE SHOWING UP TO CLASS! I got a 100% on my term paper because I went to his office hours and he sat with me for 45 minutes and he never made me feel ashamed for asking questions, he's really cool when you get to talking to him

A pretty good teacher overall. A bit monotonous at times, and slides are too vague for later reference, but very interested in his field, good explanation of concepts and their effects, lots of short video examples. Paper is doable, exams were fair. A bit too much reading, but go to class and you'll get the main points.

This was one of the best political science classes I have taken so far. I was a visiting student from another UC and found that UCDs poly sci program is so easy. Everything in this class is really straightforward,he tells you exactly what he wants and the TA was really helpful. There is also a generous curve. Take this class,it was great.

I am usually against talking bad about people but Professor Hill is an exception. AVOID HIS CLASSES AT ALL COSTS. Lectures are unbelievably boring, study guides are pointless and the mandatory 10-page-paper caused me to have a panic attack. He seems nice but he needs to revamp his teaching methods. My best advice is to record all lectures

The class was super interesting. I was fascinated by all the readings. However professor Hill is the most unclear monotonous speaker I have ever witnessed. Leave it to him to make a simple concept a 30 minute convoluted tangent. I wish I hadn't taken the class. Material is straightforward. He makes it confusing.

Very knowledgeable professor and interesting course material. Class is not too hard, but attending lecture is a must because his slides aren't detailed. Only downside is that he has a very complicated and elaborate way of explaining things that in reality are somewhat simple. Not a "to the point" type of professor. Overall, I enjoyed the class

The material itself is quite interesting but the way Professor Hill presents the material can be a little confusing. He is very knowledgeable about environmental politics and has a lot to say, so if you take this class I suggest you go to the lectures because his slides are very very vague. His tests are quite lengthy so study up!

Interesting material. His lectures were pretty dry, and he's not that exciting. Exams were standard difficulty, but you need to really study your book to ace them. No homework or quizzes; 1/3 midterm, 1/3 final, 1/3 term paper. He's alright. Probably wouldn't take again, though. You really need someone enthusiastic for these sorta socsci classes.

I am not personally that interested in politics, but had to take this class anyway. Wasn't as bad as I thought. The lectures were boring, but were a good supplement to the readings. There's 2 books assigned The smaller one is bassically unnecessary. The exams are multiple choice, writing out definitions, and 2 essays. Fair, but lots of work.

Throughout my 4 years at Davis, Professor Hill has been my favorite professor I've come across. Although sometimes he isn't super clear, he is so knowledgeable, and if you pay attention to what he's saying, you develop a new understanding and appreciation for the material. I highly recommend him. He's very helpful and friendly in OH too.
