Overall this was an alright class. This class was not necessarily tough, but it was pretty boring. He did make a reasonable attempt to give feedback and he was pretty consistent, predictable, and systematic about the way he ran the class. He did grade pretty tough on my papers, if I'm honest, I did expect higher grades than I recieved.

I enjoyed his class his tattoos are sick and is open to lots of ideas, you just get the impressions he's a good guy in general, doesn't try to force his humor on you yet you'll end up enjoying it probably

He wants you to put your feelings and emotions into the paper rather than facts from a book. Didn't like the class too much.

He gives a lot of time for you to compose your essays. However, if you go to his office hours, he is not much of a help. But he gives you enough time to compose a good essay if you start your work early. Not hard to receive a good grade if you actually your best.

He was a super nice guy, tried to make his lectures interesting and helpful when needed. He was a a decent essay grader and wanted you to think outside the box. As long as you did all the work and showed up to class you were fine.

Readings were interesting and relevant, and essays allowed the class to have creative control. Professor guided us through midterms and prepared us well for the final. Classes tended to drag on but weren't unbearable. He made himself available and was always willing to help. I consider myself a better writer and I'm glad I took it with him.

A lot of group discussions but it leads you into your essay topics. Very helpful. Had about 3 essays that were 7-8 pages each. Had workshops to revise them. Had 2-3 in class essays and the final is the mandatory English department final. All doable not busy work whatsoever. Great professor, definitely recommend him.

I also took him at Mission College. He is one of the more influential professor that I've had. Too bad he doesn't teach any other courses here or at San Jose State. There are a 4 essays, 10 reading responses, and 13 in-class assignments. The workload might seem like a lot, but it really isn't. Thanks again Professor Shank. You have inspired me!

If you are a procrastinator (like almost everyone) then this class might be hard because although the work is high school level, he gives you a shizzle load of it. Grades essays pretty hard, and kind of a nerd when it comes to things related to english. I believe he's doing something new now though.. not teaching. OH WELL

Rad. I got the first 1B Student post. To business.. The dude's great. His class is very challenging so make sure you're up for it. His class is also very well-rounded because it offers different aspects of an English course. You review the basics and go into more complex material that helps you grow as a reader and a writer. Very funny guy.

Funny guy, interesting lectures. Too much profanity though but I don't mind. Take him if you want an easy A but don't want to learn anything. He's helpful since he can think like a college student. I got a B- even with all the boring essays.

Very cool guy, fairly young and has a bunch of tatoos. Energetic, nice, and very enthusiastic. One of the few english classes I enjoyed. Has a very laid back style of teaching and assignments are easy since they can be on whatever. Take him, he's good.

Shank is a cool teacher. He is kick back and you can pass his class if you attend all his classes. He makes you do a lot of work, but it really helps your writing. Just do all of the assignments and do not slack off and you will do fine.
