Comment:

History 264 is nearly all lecture-based, so you have to come to class. However, if you're even the slightest bit interested in culture, this class is great! Some think his lectures are boring, but I find them interesting --- that's saying a lot from someone who used to HATE the social sciences before his class. He responds to emails very quickly.

Comment:

Had him for a seminar and actually really enjoyed the class. He had good class interaction every class and he really helped me learn a lot about my topic. It was a very fair amount of work and he seemed as if he was a fair grader. I would say take a class with him if you have the chance, he's a nice guy.

Great lecturer: not at all hard to follow, although he sometimes gets obsessed with numbers. I personally think immigration history is a very boring subject so I thank him for making it at least bearable. Class experience largely depends on your TA; I had a horrible one who did NOT know what she was doing, so my discussion classes were dreadful.

Professor Dublin's lectures basically consisted of him reading off a paper and students trying to write down as much of it as they could. I would hardly call this "teaching." He is very nice and obviously passionate about history, but he needs to work on the way he presents the material. The class was very TA-intensive; they gave you your grades.

I can't say anything bas about this Professor. He is an exellent researcher and his material is very interesting. His lecture are hard to follow.They are somewhat boring, undynamic. I am used to having a discussion in class or a question time 5 minutes before the end in other classes. I wish he would assign more reading relevant to lectures.

I loved Professor Dublin! He is such a cute old man, who is very passionate and knowledgeable about his subject. The lectures can run on the dull side, but that is how it goes with most classes. Do the reading and take notes and you should get an A! Dublin is a very helpful guy, and very approachable.

People don't give him near enough credit. He is passionate and extremely intelligent and perspective. Yes, he does go really fast in lecture, but his way of explaining things make things somewhat simplified for a better understanding.

Loved this class. Not interesting if you don't like American history though. Passionate and great lecturer. If you attend class, you'll get into the material, but if you just go to discussion, you'll hate it. The TAs don't give it justice like the prof. Only 2 papers, midterm and final, so very simple. Many opps. for extra credit, so do it.

One of the most knowledgeable professors i have ever had or will ever have. He was a great professor and i learned more in this class than i have in any of my other classes. There are few tests, just two papers and a midterm and final. People who hated the class probably never went to class and were apathetic about learning.

He really focuses on certain groups immigration experiences and totally leaves out others. The roots paper is almost impossible if your family emigrated early in the nations history or you are Native American.

This class was very good. The professor really cared about the subject tought and I feel that he put a lot of effort into teaching. Some of the lectures were boring, but the general class was awesome. The only thing that was questionable was the power of the TA's, some of them weren't very good.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.. I needed at least two shots of moca for this one. Fairly easy midterm and final however the pain of 2 (1) hour lectures of blah blah blah blah I learned this history in American Government in High School. Easy A- or A if you manage to stay awake. TA makes ore breaks you.

He is a very nice man and is extremely passionate about this class. Lectures are not always that interesting, but I found sitting and listening more than writting helped me understand. Tests consist of picking from a list of ID's and essays. Papers are easy, but nice to have a decent TA. TAKE THIS!
