Give him your ideas and he will give you back more ideas. Knows his stuff and is acceptable with every style. If you want your style to be similar to his, he will push you really hard. Overall, kind-hearted person and is a professor that will put a smile on your face when you work in his class.

Tom is super funny. FIrst history class I could sit through without dozing off. He keeps class short and concise. Quizzes are literally a matching exercise btwn pictures of pieces and names of artists. The essay is completely under your control. great chill class to take and actually learn from.

I loved this class! I cannot say enough good things about him. He gives great useful critiques, and does a lot of in class work which i found really helpful. Also he says a lot of really crazy metaphors, it's great. again, I can't recommend him highly enough.

From what everyone else said, I'd say this guy is pretty neat. While he doesn't seem to be the hottest bun in the oven, it sounds like he's rather humorous, understanding, and down-to-earth. I guess I'd take his course. Plus, some of the children's books he's illustrated are not bad at all. And I just found out he's my neighbor, too! Bravo.

La Padula is one of the better teachers in ComD, you'll want to take his class. He's sort of from the old school, but his technique and expertise are very helpful for the art student. You're going to love him. He's a pleasure to be around, no nasty art ego. Just a very nice, down to earth guy, very solid in his style and advice.

Great teacher!!! I learn so much in his history of illus. class, and he doesn't give a lot of work either. One paper and 2 little quizzes.. quizzes, not tests! You only need to know the name the artist, and recognize the painting.. no comparisons/essays, just slides. He also gives a sheet of no more than 30-40 illustrators :)

Tom is the reason you go to art school. The best prof in ComD, bar none. When he gives you a crit, don't argue with him, just listen. He knows more about the business and discipline of being an illustrator than any other prof at Pratt. And he's funny as hell too. I still keep the hand-outs that he gave me. He's a must for Illustration majors.

i havnt learned too much new in this class, its more for illustration majors that know their way around the program. great guy, relaxed. kind of useless if you already know photoshop (enough to maneuver), unless you have specific questions he doesnt teach u any new 'tricks'.

Hysterical! and honestly one of the most helpful teachers I've ever had, one of those teachers that rotates around class and helps students one-on-one on projects while they work, instead of leavin ya hanging until the end. Very helpful on specifics, great projects, Deserves a raise!

Took him for Illustration: Methods and media. You learn lots about painting. He got me interested in oils, and I learned more from him about color than my alleged LCD teacher.
