Class is difficult without oustide help such as study groups. Around 5 quizes, a midterm and a final. To do well you have to read, even if you skim through it, and take notes on lectures.

You have to read a lot for this class (from 3 different books). About 100+ pages a week. He gives out really hard quizzes that most of the class fails. Monotone type lecture. In order to pass you have to read.

Maddux masters history and he knows it like the back of his hand. This course requires you to read a lot. His quizzes are hard, you have to make sure you read all the material. He is also a bit dry and it makes it hard to really be interested in the subject. I attended most of his classes but I fell asleep. Make sure to stay focused.

Maddux is a bit dry, but it is easy to receive a good grade in this class if you do the work. There is quite a bit of reading, 4 quizzes, a midterm and a final. He also curves the quizzes at the end. Pay attention in class, do the readings and you should do just fine.

I loved his U.S. diplomacy class. He's been teaching at CSUN since 1968-he's very knowledgeable on the subject matter since he lived through it! A lot of reading and a ton of quizzes based on it, but he curves them and is an easy grader on the 2 papers and final.

His lectures tend to go fast. He gives quizzes based on readings which are really hard, and their is alot of reading. The exams are graded by TAs. I would recommend the class only if you can take the SI class with it.

Very boring class & professor. Granted it was a 150 person class. 5 15 question quizzes that are easy if you do the reading. Midterm is 3essays grades by t.a. which is pretty easy to get a good grade in. Prepare for an extremely dull monotone class, but at the end of the day its a pretty easy A or B!

He is amazing in U.S. Diplomacy. Gives all the facts and is very clear. I mean its a 400 level class so expect to do the work and the readings. Gives reading quizzes that are based on the book, but I heard he will curve them.

He likes discussions, wants to see you participate. Make sure he knows who you are! If you do that you will do fine in his class. Make sure you go over the notes and study guides he gives you, it will be exactly the same on the midterm and final.

Attendance is not mandatory, and if history is not your favorite subject I do not recommend taking this class. Even though he uses Power Point presentations, the class is very unexciting and he is very monotonous. It's easy though, if you simply read the text and show up for quizzes and exams.

You really don't have to go to class as long as you read. (Attendance is not mandatory!) There is reading weekly and if you don't keep up, it's bound to pile up quickly. As for the prof, he's really just a cute old man. Lectures can be bland, but sometimes helpful. There is a SI group: TAKE IT because it involves extra credit and worth 1 unit.

I bet that Dr. Maddux is a very good professor when he is not faced with 200 freshmen. I think that the lower division classes bore him...they certainly bore me. The questions on his quizzes are ambiguous, at best. The worst part is the grad students that grade the essays. Take it only if you must.

I currently have an A in this class but only because I do nothing but study for this class. It takes up 3/4 of my study time and I have 3 other classes. He is incredibly boring and requires that you read FOUR different books adding up to about 150 pages of reading per week. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF.

Seriously, do not take this professor. He has grad students grade the midterm and final. I received a horrible grade on my midterm and when I talked to the student that graded my paper, she told me Prof. Maddux wants our tests graded like we're history majors. Ugh. Boring lectures, too much reading, and a hard lower division GE class in general.

Prof. Maddux is extremely boring, his classes consist of power point lectures, and he gives quizzes and a midterm and final which are extremely hard. There is not enough time to take the tests, and the reading of the books is extensive and is the only way to pass the class. I do not recommed him to anyone. Take this class with another professor.

Attention CSUN students. If you take this class and you want to do well, YOU MUST READ EVERY CHAPTER FROM EVERY BOOK YOU ARE ASKED. If you do this, then you will do well guaranteed! I didnt show up to class 75% of the time and I got an A-. JUST DO THE READINGS (quizzes, midterm, and final) all taken from the readings! YOU WILL BE READING A LOT!!!!!

Not a class you can expect an easy A from. Lectures are from PowerPoints which actually DO help you on the quizzes he has once every couple of weeks. YOU HAVE TO READ A LOT IN ORDER TO DO WELL. I read more than normal and ended up with a B. 5 quizzes + 2 essay-format midterms.

Class was very boring. The lecture was on powerpoint but he doesn't upload them online. The powerpoint are useless for the test. His midterm and final are essay format and we had quizzes once every two weeks from the readings. if you want to pass, you have to read every chapters from the books.
