Comment:
Dr. Stone is a nice and caring guy who is always there to answer you questions. But he is kind of all over the place in his lectures and assigns lots of essays towards the end of the term. He also grades very slowly and you don't really have a sense of how you're doing in his class. Grades tough

Dr. Stone is a very nice man in person. However, he is not that great of a professor. He takes weeks to return feedback and grades. There are only 5 papers, but it was very frustrating to work hard on the last two to never receive a grade for them. As long as you do all of the work and participate in the discussions, you will get an A.

Comment:
Good professor, bad for First Year Writing. He cares way too much and assigns horribly boring, long, and tedious assignments. I never got a grade back, and it took him a while to return rough drafts with feedback. He must not be a harsh grader because I did not put much effort into most assignments and finished with a B+.

He is a very hard teacher to stay organized with. Instead of telling or emailing anyone about distinct due dates, he merely creates a dropbox the night before it's due and you better hope you find it. He also fails to keep a grade book so if you do miss an assignment there is no way to figure it out. I have always liked english until this class.

Comment:
Stone is a decent professor, but he isn't a type of professor many students would understand and enjoy if they're in a engineering or science degree. He's very theatrical, has an odd sense of humor, and is sort of annoying at some points. Although there are negatives, he is a good guy who cares about his students and wants them to learn.

Comment:
He is a very nice guy and is down to earth, but is not the best professor for the job. He is very knowledgeable with English and Literature topics, but his course is very disorganized. His grading policies are not well known and may seem arbitrary at times. You can easily pass, though the class feels like a waste of time.

Online class: weekly activity responses, discussion comments AND four papers. The problem is that every week you could spend days on this one class. Also, the papers and weekly assignments overlap too many things due in the same week. I am conscientious about my classes but this one is OVERWHELMING. Way too much work for one class.

I have no idea why the comments on Professor Stone's page should be anything but great. Definitely the best professor I have had so far at RIT. He is kind of a hard grader, but only because he really cares about what he is doing. Probably one of the nicest people I have ever met, and if I got the chance I'd definitely take him again.

I really disliked him at first; talks too much and has a weird sense of humor. But the guy means well, and you can tell he cares about teaching. He's good at grading writing assignments and giving good feedback. His classes, however, vary from extremely boring to, occasionally, really interesting (surprisingly). I ended up liking the guy.

Stone is great, he's really nice and very easy going. His class is laid back and not very difficult. He loves reading and critiquing student work, and is happy to help with writing. His assignments aren't difficult if you don't mind writing. He comes off as strange and boring at first, but if you give him a chance you'll have a great time.

I took two classes with him. The first one was The Evolving English Language. I got a B in that one but I honestly just wasn't interested in it. The second was the written argument which I thought was really interesting and I got an A. He's a really nice guy but a tough grader. I learned a lot from his class though.

A decent professor, class was enough of a challenge without being impossible. He's a bit late on getting grades to students, but that could just be due to having taken his class over the summer.

Taking Evolving English Language with him now. He's a super nice guy, but this class is extremely challenging and he talks NON- STOP. I wouldn't recommend this class unless you absolutely have to take it. Do an online class with him instead. I got an A with him for "witten argument" and did the bare minimum of work. Pice of cake IMO.

Dr. Stone is a very nice guy. He gives many silly assignments, like discussion posts. But he is a very easy essay grader, and as long as you do the discussions online, and write a semi-decent essay USING QUOTES from the novel you'll probably get an A

He is a nice guy. I think the reason for his low ratings is that he definitely does tend to go off subject a LOT. He know so much about the topic that his mind is constantly trying to spit everything out at us, so it comes off as very confusing at times. Otherwise, it is an easy A.

This class was a bit pointless, but Tom clearly has a love for teaching. I think he has molded the class to his liking and is trying to do the same with our minds, although I found on essays he was very willing to accept new ideas and grade them fairly. FOR A REQUIRED CLASS THIS CLASS COULD BE MUCH WORSE. Just don't expect to stay awake in lectures
