Everything wrong with tenure. The University of Pittsburgh is doing its students a disservice by allowing this guy to continue to teach. I have had tough teachers before but never a teacher that straight up doesn't care about you. Don't expect anything in way of help or clarification because he enjoys trying to trip you up. Your on your own here!

Believe everyone when they say Thomas Wolf is TERRIBLE. Worst teacher I had. This is my first time taking programming and I still know nothing. The lectures are pointless, only way to pass is you can find most of the labs online. Other than that, don't expect help. I emailed him almost every day and he doesn't help. He doesn't care if you fail

Doesn't actually teach or explain. Reads directly off a powerpoint that he doesn't make. Only 4 exams, no final, quizzes, or homework. Horrible teacher but I've had worse. Exams are exactly like the study guide. Do not recommend.

Has lost the ability to teach students from scratch. With Java being a pre-requisite class, he scared me away from pursuising the degree. Do not take if you have no experience with Java or try and take it elsewhere so it can transfer over.

I feel like I paid tuition to use Google. Every time I asked for help, he would refuse. He actually perceives himself to be a great teacher but barely teaches anything off of a PowerPoint presentation. Even with his ego, he still refuses to help anyone. Class time is long, confusing, and boring. Because of this, everyone in the class suffers.

This is the WORST class I've ever taken. He doesn't teach - just reads off power points for everything. Gave 4 tests worth 100 points each and that's it. Book doesn't help so don't buy it. Better yet, don't take this class with him.

When I read the reviews on here, I thought "Pssshh. Whatever. I can handle it." Listen, NO. YOU. CAN'T. Tests are so much harder than the homework or labs. He's unhelpful and rude if you ask a question. Especially do not take him if you're new to programming. He simply does not remember what it's like to be learning all this stuff from scratch.

yo Dr. Wolf is not a helpful professor at all, he gets pleasure out of trying to trip up students on tests

Comment:
He teaches purely by reading off powerpoints and is very unclear when answering questions (when he hears them correctly the first time you ask, which is rare). Don't waste money getting the book unless you want to practice problems on your own. Good news - he curves exam grades A LOT, so you will pass if you have a basic idea of what's going on.

Wolf exclusively uses power points that other teachers have designed. His "lectures" consist of him sitting on his ass and reading word for word whatever the power points say (keep in mind he didn't even create them himself). Doesn't review for for tests, or even give you a direction to study for them. Can't ever hear any word you say.

Do not recommend; 'review' consists of easiest problems when the tests are completely opposite, very difficult

dr. wolf is a nice guy kind of. seems to get frustrated with people when they don't understand the material, even if they aren't computer savvy. he will clarify your confusions and is available thru email and office hours. he comes off as kind of a jerk, sometimes made me want to cry. prior knowledge to HTML helps. DO NOT BUY BOOKS, not needed

I took wolf for website design, and honestly, he wasn't bad. He is a really nice guy and was friendly everyday. He had notes posted days before the quizzes so you can literally only come to the quiz and leave. The labs were easy and his grading was really easy for labs. I didn't need any book so don t buy one even though it lists one or two.

Honestly one of the worst Professors i've ever had. His quizzes do not match the readings or the information he gives in class. His assignments are basic at first, but later in class are so poorly constructed, worded, and taught you are almost completely dependent on outside help to begin the projects. Do not take this professor.

Intro to C++. This class was an absolute nightmare. His teaching style is one of the poorest I have ever seen. He simply runs through a power point that burns through hard material. When you ask questions, you always have to repeat yourself due to his poor hearing. Visiting his office hours is next to useless, though he did give a few extensions.

worst professor ever, do not take him! he does not know how to teach, talks down to students and is very rude, if you don't go to class you will be lost with everything but it doesn't matter cause he can't teach anyway and it's boring and his quizzes and labs are stupid!

Web Design: Don't take Wolf unless you know the basics already. Take Noble or Szurek instead. Wolf knows a lot about web design practices...he just gets them confused during lecture sometimes. Easy labs, no homework, and online quizzes. He was surprisingly helpful in comparison to his other courses. Plus, he doesn't force use to learn frames. YAY!

Taken for Data Structures. Not the world's worst professor, but not the best. Teaches straight from powerpoint, which makes things difficult for a comp class. If you take this course, do the following: do your H/W EARLY, find a tutor, and go to EVERY SINGLE CLASS. If you find yourself just at 74.4%, he won't round up unless you attend his classes.
