Professor Lopez is one of THE best professors at UCR period! She is no longer teaches in the English Department but in the Department of Theatre, Film, & Digital Production. Because her research deals with how to artistically talk about and stage issues of trauma and violence, that is the general theme evoked in class. Very inspirational!

I hated her class. At first. But she truly inspired me and gave me a better understanding of theater. Her class was focused on Latinos in film. Consisted of films and play reading. She even got us free tickets to watch a play in LA and invited us to dinner. Truly inspiring professor. Shes a very demanding professor but totally worth it.

Professor Lopez is a demanding professor this is true, this is the way it should be! Professor Lopez deepened my analytical skills and this didn't just happen through sitting there, the work load is manageable don't worry. She gives her students a chance to express themselves artistically by giving you a lot of options on your final. Short films etc.

Attendance is mandatory but time flies because she makes all of her lectures interesting. She is really pretty too so it'd be difficult to lose interest in what she says. The class requires a reader, in which you cover one play a week. Each play varies but they're around 80-130 pages. Don't worry though, plays are easy reads and interesting.

An extremely amazing professor!! She is the definition of what kind of teaching every student at the UC level should be receiving. Tuition hikes are getting ridiculous and she is the only professor I have met that truly gives students their money's worth because she cares about her student's learning and ability to succeed. 10*'s take her class ASA

amazing professor! not an easy class though, you have to stay on top of readings and put some serious thought into your work. she teaches you to become a better writer(so she does grade somewhat hard) but it will def pay off. she really cares about the students- not just handing out grades! take her class!!

Her class was my favorite. She is so helpful and constantly trying to help students improve their writing. It was somewhat inspiring to have a professor who was really passionate about what they were teaching. The class was not easy, but it wasn't extremely difficult either. If you do all the reading(which isn't hard)and attend class you'll do fine

Best teacher I've ever had. Lectures are engaging and motivating. Tests are easy if you read the material and attend class. Essays are hard if you don't know how to read critically, but she will help you do so. Would absolutely take another class taught by her or a similar one to this one.

Had her for CHASS Sequence. She was fun though her lectures were sometimes intense. She's extremely helpful though and even in a big lecture class she still tried to connect with everyone. Her books used [from her anthology to the children's book] were all used though I don't recommend buying them. They're all easy to get from libraries.

She is absolutely fabulous! Very professional and always looks fierce- Although, I had an issue with my final grade and expressed my concerns by letting her know. This class is honestly life changing and teaches you "Violence as a critical discourse, using the personal as a spring board for critical converstions..." It was a great class.

Loez challenges you and generally elevates your critical awareness. Extremely dedicated to her profession, truly cares about her students growth and progress and the material in her curriculum is fresh and eclectic. She doesn't play around when it comes to grading though, MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT SHE WANTS in her assignments. Highest recommendation.

She was an excellent professor. Her class was fun and she was fun. She did give A LOT of work for the final grade though. I think she could have toned it down a bit but other than that she was very inspiring. I liked her a lot.

I HAD HER FOR MORE THAN 1 CLASS. THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE HAD HANDS DOWN. THE FINAL PROJECT IS A LOT OF WORK, BUT YOU GET SO MUCH MORE OUT OF THE CLASS AND THE MATERIAL THAN SITTING AT A 3 HOUR FINAL REGURGITATING INFORMATION. THE MATERIAL IN THAT CLASS TAKES YOU INTO THE REAL WORLD. SHE IS AN INSPIRATION FOR UNDERREPRESENTED STUDENTS TO DO WELL.

Professor Lopez was a very helpful and great Prof. this quarter. Although, her class revolved too much around the required reading, and on a substantial amount of work (the final was too much! a group performance, group portfolio, AND a 9 page individual portfolio!)..i felt the work was very overwhelming, but overall, she was excellent.

The BEST professor I have EVER had!! She is intelligent, articulate, and and overall caring professor. She is always available to talk, but make sure you make an appt as she is extremely popular. If you want to do well in her class, though, you must be able to think critically and you must do all the readings. Also, take your time on the papers.

Very interested in her subject, articulates so lectures easy to follow. Literature very interesting, especially if you like realistic fiction. Sometimes can feel like an outcast if you are not Chicano, cuz class is typically 90% Chicano, but themes can relate to any "growing up" experience, no matter your ethnicity. Its funny how she always matches!
