"To the typical student, the class will seem like nothing more than a guise for Roberts to find 70 sources of free labor for the survey project that he can put his name on."- Whoever wrote this is 100% correct. The project was the biggest waste of time that I've ever had to endure. Avoid this class at all costs.

Don't be fooled by the title "Environmental Sociology." To the typical student, the class will seem like nothing more than a guise for Roberts to find 70 sources of free labor for the survey project that he can put his name on. Exams are based entirely on the 1,500 odd pages of reading and require unfair amounts of memorization and citations.

Comment:
Roberts seems like a good professor, but not in this class. Even for a 300-level, the class was way too ambitious. Exams are based entirely upon the mountains of dry reading material (be prepared to have to cite specific chapters, articles, and authors) and the class itself just seems to be an afterthought compared to the project. Avoid this one.

Prof Roberts seems to be passionate about what he is talking about but is VERY diorganized. The readings usually have nothing to do with class and that makes it hard to understand and relate/discuss your thoughts or opinions of the readings. The second half of the semester we did NOTHING in class except talk about the project (waste of time)

His lectures were somewhat disorganized, and the class required a huge time commitment with the project and all of the readings. Aside from that, he is a great professor who has a genuine passion for what he teaches. Take him.

Timmons sucks! He is incredibly disorganized. He gives projects with no relevance and readings that are boring and unrelated to class discussion. He is unprepared for class and ignores you if you try and correct him. I can't help it if he's ignorant and wrong.

Terrible prof. Most of what he talks about has nothing to do with enviro soc and usually doesn't even pertain to the horribly boring readings he assigns. He is so unorganized and makes you do stupid projects that are lame and time-consuming. I don't know how I managed to sit through his classes.

Prof. Roberts teaches some awesome topics and really makes a big impact. But he is also pretty arrogant and likes to cut people off mid-sentence. Easy to get a B or B plus but hard to get an A. I'd still reccomend any class he teaches.

I didn't take this for a grade, so I can't talk about the workload. But it was pretty informative, and the professor is great (although much outside of Latin America was not covered, which was slightly disappointing.) Overall though, great class.
