Brilliant man, hard classes. His papers are extremely difficult, but not impossible. Take his class if you want to learn. Getting an A isn't impossible.

A brilliant professor and scholar. Skidmore is so lucky to have him. I graduated 10 years ago and wish I could take all his courses again. He doesn't coddle and forces students to think for themselves. He improved my writing and argumentation more than any other professor in my academic career. Take his classes, but take them seriously ;)

One of the truly great minds at Skidmore. A careful and brilliant instructor who takes the educations of his students seriously. Doesn't allow students to get away with wishy-washy answers or comments, which rubs some the wrong way. But for those who want to get the most out of what they're reading and studying, there's no better professor.

One of the best and smartest teachers at Skidmore. He lectures for most of the class and there is little discussion, but you learn a lot, which I didn't expect going into the class. He is a brilliant speaker and a teacher everyone should take during their time at Skidmore. Pretty difficult class, but if you do the readings it is not that bad.

For students who are sincerely interested in learning, Prof. Burns is a phenomenal teacher. The books and topics he covers aren't easy, and he doesn't dumb them down just to make them accessible, but his understanding of the subject matter, as well as his ability to help good students get the most out of what they're reading, is unmatched.

Tim Burns is one of the few individuals teaching at Skidmore who actually deserves the title "professor." A brilliant man and a gifted speaker, you will learn more in his class than you ever thought possible. This is, of course, only if you are willing to do the work.

The best professor I have ever had at Skidmore. True he is extremely well read and eloquent, but I find it difficult to cite those as negative qualities. Lectures are extremely engaging and interesting to listen to. There is a fair bit of reading assigned, but not overwhelming, mainly primary source. Also very attractive, in arrogant kind of

Worst professor I've had at Skidmore. He's frustratingly pretentious, and talks almost non-stop about random books that are not assigned to make himself seem like a genius. Many people say they are amazed with Burns because of how much he's read, but his showing off is very annoying and does not help people learn!

Wow. Professor Burns is probably the smartest man I have ever met in my entire life!!!! I don't know what to say except that I can't believe he's at Skidmore instead of Harvard. All you haters should shut your mouths and be happy that you have a teacher like this.

Yes he is brilliant. You can ask him (like some snotty ratings say here), or you can just listen to him teach. If you're not a very thoughtful person, don't take his class, but if you want to learn more than you have in any other class you've ever had, take his classes.

I LOVE professor Burns. I had him for an intro class, and even that was very interesting. He brings humour to a sometimes dry subjectThere is a lot of readings, but it is well worth it. He is a wonderful person and is easily approachable. When I was having problems that had to do with matters outside of class he offered to help me and was very sup
