This was the worst class Ive ever taken in my life. DO NOT TAKE IT WITH SHANAHAN. Your grade starts at a 0 and you can only earn points through participation, quizzes, attendance, and one final test. The quizzes youre guranteed to get a 2/3 almost every time even if you study your ass off and the final was IMPOSSIBLE

Shanahan is the worst teacher I've ever had. Your only grades are the homework quizzes (which you'll fail at even if you've read and studied every movie/chapter to the finest detail), attendance, and the final. Participation also but basically only if you talk during every single class. Terrible and boring lectures. He doesn't care for his students

I watched every movie and read every inch of literature he assigned and still basically failed the quizzes. He was judgmental during discussions and even when I talked during class period I received a 60% on my class participation. final didn't even relate to the class and the class average was a 70%. take it if you like to fail.

He isn't the most interesting, but he gets the points across clearly. There are 3 point quizzes, but if you are a careful reader, then you'll be fine. Participate often and you'll be fine. Student-athletes are not going to fail this class, because you should be paying attention anyway. 123movies is your friend

I absolutely loved Professor Shanahan!! He's kind, pretty chill, and so passionate about teaching. He definitely makes philosophy interesting and relevant. The homework is very reasonable, just reading and 3 point quizzes on each reading, which aren't bad if you read carefully. Classes are discussion based. The final exam is a 15-minute oral exam.

The everyday quizzes are designed to just give it to you hard. They're online and are due before every class period. The answers provided are all fairly good enough to be the right one so there's no way to tell unless you do the reading. He also changes one thing in the answer(s) that make them sound right but is wrong because of a minor detail.

This class had hard readings and before every class there is an online quiz on the readings. He is very strict on grading. You have to show up for class or you won't get a good grade.

Prof Shanahan was great! The class is discussion based and he measures your participation daily at the end of class. There are daily readings and write-ups (super easy). There are only 4 "big" 3-4 page papers and no final. It's a great class if you like discussions and very little writing/stress. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!

T-Shan is the boss of all bosses. His lectures are engaging and easy to understand, and he goes out of his way to make sure that you and he are on the same page in terms of expectations/grading. On top of that, he's just a chill instructor in general - he takes dry, abstract philosophy and makes it pretty easy to click with.

This class was so easy and fun. For homework each week, we would watch the movie, read the philosophical text that went with the reading, and then write a reflection paper, one page. Very interesting class. Take, especially if you're not a major. It teaches many different philosophical ideas through movies. Good intro class to take.

One of the most interesting classes i have ever taken. Shanahan makes you consider philosophical positions you never would have considered. It is an essential class for anyone going into the field of science. Attendance is mandatory, however, you will find yourself not wanting to miss class.

Shanahan is such a great professor. He is kind, interesting, and totally unbiased on all philosophical and religious views. He is so open minded and understanding. Attendance and participation are required but the homework is easy and there is no midterm or final, only one paper due at the end. Take him!!

Shanahan is the man! He has an amazing ability to not let you know what he thinks, and as soon as a premature band wagon towards a particular position gets going you can expect Shanahan to bring it to a grinding halt. Meticulous in methodology. Transparent about expectations. Totally accommodating if you are having trouble. Clear and honest.
