Professor vW is nice, very approachable. However, he focuses a lot on dates and the New Testament Bible that he uses has so many footnotes that there's no room to analyze the text for yourself. You have to memorize his point of view to pass, not the actual Biblical text. If you take this class, get yourself a bible without crazy footnotes.

Really great guy amazing lecturer made his own book specifically for the class and it is written to be easy to understand (the Loyola bookstore is wrong). he understands that his area of study may bore some people but he really tries to make it interesting has a wicked sense of humor. weekly quizzes,2 tests, some easy turn in assignments nd a final

The NT is very interesting and gives gives a lot of insight. However, he's habitually late and goes off on tangents at time so we didn't cover everything in the syllabus. By going to class, reading, and studying an A is easily attained

Nice& helpful, knows the new testament well. He wrote a textbook himself and his quizzes are straight out from it. This course should be very easy and interesting if you are familiar with the Bible and do the reading assignments. He looks like Santa Claus.. The only bad thing is that the grade scale is kinda tough. 95 above is an A

Great professor! He's like your grandfather. He wrote the textbook himself, so as long as you read the material you'll do fine on the tests. Test material is easy and he tells you exactly what to study. Plus, if you get an A on both exams, you don't have to take the final!

Loved this class! He wrote the textbook himself and lectures straight from it, so as long as you read the material you'll do great on the tests. with 30+ years of teaching experience he really knows what he's talking about. has a sense of humor and loves to joke around with the class

Way too tedious and difficult for a core class. As much as I love memorizing mindless facts about the bible every night, I have other classes that are much more important. He's nice but his class takes way too much time for core.

Von Wahlde is one of my favorite profs from this semester. He's extremely knowledgeable and friendly; he gives off the wise-grandpa vibe. This class is kind of tough, but if you read, attend class, and participate, you'll do fine. He drops your two lowest quiz grades and the tests are around 60 questions each.

AVOID THIS PROFESSOR!!! Whoever wrote in one of the comments below that his grading scale is tough because of the theology department's requirements is absolutely WRONG! He set the grading scale to his own liking. In another theology class that I took, the grading scale was fair and I got a good grade. This class hurt my gpa for no good reason.

Eh, I wasnt crazy for his teaching. It was an interesting class, but he was always all over the place. Learned a lot, but it was still very boring. Make sure to read, he loves choosing the same people to speak up for participation. Would recommend attending class, not required but he covers a lot at once.

Amazing Professor! He's so passionate, though this is actually much harder if you have experience with the New Testament, it gets hard to differentiate new information from old information. Take him!

Dr. vW is an excellent professor. The past 5 reviews are on the money. He really knows the New Testament and is always willing to help. I especially liked this class because it is more of a secular theology class which I value since I grew up hearing bible-school versions of the New Testament and not the historical/cultural background info.

Great professor who teaches an extremely interesting class. His tests are reasonable if you pay attention (easy to do since his lectures are very interesting) and read the textbook (which he wrote himself and contains pretty much all you need to know). Weekly quizzes (drops 2 lowest scores). Hard grading scale, but this is b/c of theo department.

Probably the funniest professors at Loyola, yet very clear in lectures. The quizzes are easy, as well as the tests. He is really caring and wants his students to get an A (which really isnt hard). He taught the NT in a way that makes people appreciate it, even if your not christian, definitely recommend him.

He is an awesome teacher. He knows the material better then any religion teacher i've ever had. He's a nice man who enjoys taking a break in class for a joke or two. I highly recommend this class. It's not too hard if you just do the readings and go over them again before class and you'll do fine on the quizzes and tests.
