Dr. Akis is a savage, but he cares so much about his students. He literally makes me laugh during every single class meeting. Just be sure to communicate with him on where you are and what you want to improve on. He will help you as long as he sees you putting in the work. GO TO OFFICE HOURS.

I went to his office hours and asked him if I could redeem my average midterm grade, and he gave me the opportunity to replace it with my final grade. It does not look like he lives up to his words.

There's 1 midterm(40%), 1 final(50%). You turn in homework(10%) midterm and final day. The lectures in class are straight forward. However, the homework DO NOT correlate to what was lectured in class. Most of them are proofs which are not taught in class. You can attempt to do the homework, but you won't ever know if you did it correctly. RUN AWAY!

focuses on explaining proofs. does not allow electronic devices on during class, but we use lots of e-books now. He is stuck in the past in terms of technology, which is odd since he also teaches courses in algorithms. Too much theory in lecture, not many applications. He speaks in boring way, so you will get bored in class

Comment:
Akis is boring. His grading requirements are a midterm, a final, and a notebook where you turn in homework problems that you have solved, as well as notes . He makes mistakes on the grading of the test, so you have to make sure his grading is correct. Not recommended. He is calm, but dull speaking, and looks like he should retire. Stay away!

The biggest problem is like he never checks your homework so you dont get a feedback and when you write answers in midsem he directly deducts your marks which costs you a lot in your grade.

This teacher wasn't that bad. His grading is based on a notebook check (10%), a midterm(40%) and a final(50%). The difficulty of his midterm and final were pretty moderate and consistent. He's a decent teacher for linear algebra. Just do the homework and you'll be fine.

Puts minimal effort into class. Lectures read from textbook. Class could have been very useful regarding regular expressions (e.g., in Java), but he never bothered to translate the information into Java. No quizzes, just two tests. Could have just read the textbook instead of taking the class.

Pay attn in class $ review notes w/ powerpoints of the lecture that r there as a guide NOT replacement 4 class notes + work hard on HW (graded on effort not correctness) & u can get an A. Exam material fair & mostly from definitions in notes & similar to HW. Ask ?s & go to office hrs. He has a tough personality, but cares to see students care.

3rd time I've had him as a professor. He has improved slightly in that he seems more willing to help students in person and by email. My biggest complaint is that he is still unable to effectively communicate the course material. It didn't help either that all the content was based off of his own, vague, notes which were PowerPoint slides.

In his class I thought I took a Calculus or Mathematics instead of learning how to write a practical and efficient algorithm. Most of the class emphasis on gibberish induction way ,that's not gonna helpful in the future ! CSU system is base on preparing students for the market not teach them theory.
