If you don't want to be called upon first sit in the direct middle of the class. He makes everyone participate but it's not too hard. The quizzes aren't worth much but they're tough to study for and they add up.

If you just do the online assignments and show up to class about 80% of the time, you'll do fine. Easy marker, but this is also an easy class. He is super nice and helpful when you need clarification on terms or grammar.

I think he is a great person. But, I don't like him as a prof. He is awfully dry. I respect him as a prof. But, I don't find his teaching style enjoyable at all.

I took children's lit with him and was distinctly underwhelmed. He did not take kindly to opinions contrary to his own. Essay marking was extremely subjective and not at all open to original ideas. Exams were entirely formed around ability to summarize the books (remember EVERY detail), no need to have been in class whatsoever.

BEST prof EVER!!! Learned more from him than all my undergrad profs put together!!!! Take any class you can possibly take with him! Not an easy marker, but fair. Very fair.

He's a great professor, knows what he's talking about. He's approachable, it's possible to do well in his courses. He's really funny, too. One of my favourite professors in my three years here thus far. And, he teaches a lot in one course, b/c THERE'S A LOT TO COVER.

very smart and nice but made learning russian seem like learning math. I also didn't care for the military precision of every class. the teaching style needs a little spicing up.
