Professor Zane is very passionate about his job! An inspiration to me, majoring in anthropology. A lot of reading, study, and his lectures are interesting I just wish there was some visual pictures included to better describe some cultures. I loved his class and its an easy A if you do all the readings & study!

Prof Zane is amazing! Although, he wasn't for me. Your grade in the course relies heavily on 3 exams which are reflective of the readings you read OUTSIDE of class & the terms you learn in class. If you learn better in auditory settings I definitely recommend him! If your like me and have testing anxiety, maybe try a different course:)

Really enjoyed the style and format of the instruction. No nonsense, straightforward, and treated students as adults.

Professor Zane is your typical quirky Anthropology professor. Very smart so you can learn a lot from him. Will always repeat something you didnt fully catch. Talks a lot about his field work but thats what Anthropology professors are supposed to do. Grade consists of a few tests and cumulative final. Lectures completely from memory.

His lectures only consist of talking and writing words on the board, then giving out the definitions. Always refers to his research and what he did. If youre a visual learner, I wouldnt recommend this.

Horrible professor. Definitely wouldnt recommend to anyone unless you really need this class. 3 exams overall and one of them is cumulative. Literally just talks for 3 hours and about his field study research. Even with the curves still pretty difficult to pass.

Extremely interesting and experienced person, you'll remember his stories. I am biased towards his style of teaching- which basically means he's talking directly to the class the entire time and presenting a concept-based lecture by rote memory. Kind of pointless to grade the course the way he does, through three exams- which are mind numbing.

It's crucial to your grade to attend class every session. Buddy up on day 1 if possible. You WILL be reading a lot and quickly; stay on top of this because material will be on tests! There are 2 midterms and 1 final. No extra credit or homework to boost your grade so study hard. I would not recommend this professor if tests make you nervous!!!!!!!

A real dad of a professor. Zane is absolutely wonderful; he knows so much about anthro and it shows through in his lectures, which are amazing because he throws in cool stories every class. GREAT jokes; makes us all laugh. Takes attendance right when class starts. Don't be late. Don't take this class if you're bored by pure-lecture and no visuals.

Interesting topics, horrible teacher. The guy is nice and means well but the class is literally 100% lecture. No visual aid/powerpoints, no class discussions, no in-class activities. I've never been more antsy in a classroom in my entire life. You will find yourself counting down the minutes until you are released. Take a different teacher!

This professor is very knowledgable about Anthropology. He ONLY lectures so if you are a visual or hands on learner, you have be warned. Only 3 tests in the entire class but they are weighted very heavily. He goes off on tangents sometimes, but they are related to the topic in some way. His stories are quite interesting. Just be ready to read A LOT

Don't get me wrong, Zane is a wonderful professor! Definitely loves the field he's in and that's extremely clear. He definitely knows anthropology like the back of his hand and I respect that. Unfortunately if you're a visual learner like me this class probably won't work out. No powerpoints, just pure lectures! Attendance is definitely key as well

Great lectures! Bit of a dork but in the best way, laughs at his own jokes. He's extremely interesting and intelligent, really knows his field. However, he grades on 2 midterms and final, which could be very good or very bad. You have to read the 2 books he assigns because he makes part of the tests using them. So reading & studying is the only HW

I recently took Professor Zane for summer 2017. For the full two hours of class all he did was lecture, he'd write words on the board and explain them. The whole class was based off of three exams. If you want an A, BUY THE BOOK! The lectures were interesting but at times felt very very long.

I took his class during the summer semester of 2016. He lectures everyday and there is no homework other than reading. He is highly experienced in his field. There are 2 tests and one final (no other tests). He even repeats something if you need him to.

Do not take take a class with Zane if you want to sit through nonstop talking. He doesn't use any visual aids, doesn't allow you to record him, and doesn't offer any guides for his tests. Pretty knowledgeable but he goes off tangent way too much and makes a lot of inappropriate jokes that only he laughs at. Would not recommend.

Professor Zane is one of those instructors that clearly knows what he's talking about and seems to love what he does. Not only does he give you textbook definitions of the things you'll need to know, he also gives TONS of amazing stories and examples from cultures all over the world (some of which are first hand experience!) Definitely recommended!

the whole course is lectures. nothing but lonnnnnng lectures of what he's done in his adventures. he makes you buy two books but you don't even use them at all. you CANT record the lectures or take photos of anything he writes on the board. the class, in general, is not great. take another course. make this your last choice.

Doesn't teach you anything out of 2 of the textbooks you are required to have; self-teach+lecture about other stuff. Unclear class/test direction. Rambles on, goes on tangents about irrelevant matters coupled with lack of visual aid, notes, handouts makes his lectures mind boggling. 2/10, do not take.

He's a nice guy, but if you are a bad test taker or a visual learner you're going to fail the class. He lectures for the entirety of the class and doesn't use PowerPoint. Goes on a lot of tangents about his personal life. There's no homework or assignments, just two mid terms and a final. Tests are tricky "choose the BEST answer". Don't recommend.
