Comment:
Wayne is a harsh grader, and is not afraid to fail people. He gave half the class Fs on our first assignment (and every assignment is 8% of the grade). His lessons are unclear and has high expectations for the homework. Would not recommend, and will never take a class from again.

Comment:
Wayne is a little difficult to follow at times. Very intelligent with a very friendly attitude but a little too advanced for his own good. He takes a bit too long to grade homework and presents information in a dry manor. He does show passion in the subject and honesty with students but I don't recommend unless you have an aptitude for linguistics

This class was the absolute WORST idea ever! I emailed the professor asking for help and he offers me no help! The tutors he supplies you with don't even responde to emails either! Yes, he seems interested in his work, but he should NOT be teaching it!!!!!!

Oftentimes, I needed to re-send my emails in order for him to respond. If he still didn't respond I had to call him. He is nice enough and very brilliant but this didn't help in the classroom. I would recommend taking an online class to avoid his tangents. It 's unfortunate when you pay for a course, and walk away feeling like you didn't learn.

Although the material was difficult, Wayne made it easy to understand. Whenever help was needed you could just email him and he'd have an answer back to you before the day was done.

Comment:
Wayne is a very intelligent, however his brilliance does not make him a better professor. He often goes off track during lectures and makes the classes somewhat difficult to sit through. He is fair when grading and goes over homework thoroughly. The subject is difficult and if you are not a Linguistics major you might want to avoid this class.

Comment:
Course was half online, half in person, with heavy computer use, this can be difficult for some. Phonetic transcription in general is difficult and Wayne does a good job of making material more understandable in terms of what we are asked to do. Adequate amount of time is spent in class covering homework. Fun, challenging assignments.

wayne occasionally comes in and teaches Dana's class. when we walk out of class after he's done teaching, we all feel more stupid, like he's killed our brain cells. Really lousy professor, avoid him if you can. whoever thought he was attractive might want to get their eyes checked.

He is very unclear on what he wants - He had us WRITE and then answer our own finals - I was thinking that I would ask questions and then THINK about the answers in a thoughtful manner, but that is not what he was asking us to do - He wanted the class to write the test and then take the paragraphs (for answers) straight from the book (open book final) - What does that teach you? It was so simple that I did poorly - I thought that surely we had to actually think for ourselves and as a result, failed the test

Dr. Corwart is a good professor. He is a well-educated man with serious expectations for his students. Very distractable, and spends too much time on reviewing homework exercises. Uses computers extensively, which predisposes most to having some problems.

86% of the grade is based on a project that's still in the fuzzy concept stage. After a class with Wayne, we wonder what the topic is really about and if what we learned was important.

His classes involve him talking about whatever is currently exciting to him (which IS fun). TEACHING about what he expects you to do in the class is not his first priority, unfortunately, and this is combined with high expectations on out-of-class work.
