This class was miserable. I'd say take any other professor, but unfortunately he's the only professor available for this class. He's extremely unclear about which chapters the quizzes cover. 1st test is easy, but you'll fail the second. Final is easier and all MC. Do packback or fail the class. Loves to complain about millennials and fat people.

He's hateful&spends most of the time complaining about our generation. On 2 of my tests, which take 3 class meetings for him to grade, he marked ?s wrong that were right&I had to ask him more than once to fix it, which will take 2-3 more class meetings for him to do. His tests/quizzes are free response&usually over 3-5chapters.

such a nice guy!!!! go to his office and he will likely give points back on test questions you missed. class is graded on a curve so just stay ahead of everyone, and you'll get an A. do the 40 extra credit points!!!!! would recommend him - just stay on top of it & READ THE BOOK!!!!! (he skips a lot of ppt slides so pay attention to those!!!

Not as bad as everyone on here is making him out to be. His accent is not thick, I could understand him. He is very understanding and answers all questions. His class has 40 free bonus points through packback DO THOSE. His class is scaled. Gives tons of partial credit. Pay attention to the slides you go over, study a lot, and you will do fine.

Dr. Bergen has a teaching style you have to adapt to, but he's very smart and I've learned a lot from his class. If you skip class, theres no way to know what he's talking about or testing on, so go and print his powerpoints and take notes on them. Go to SI too! If you put in the effort, the class is graded on a curve and its possible to get an A

I will start by saying I love Dr. Bergen! He is a very interesting guy and is extremely intelligent. Biochem is NOT an easy subject. He gives 2 exams, quizzes to equal an exam grade, and a final. He grades on a curve so as long as you're keeping grades at around class average you will be fine. SI helps with understanding topics!

Nice guy but spend all of your time with the book. The class is curved so as long as you're ahead you'll do fine.

READ THE BOOK. He regularly tested us on concepts he only lectured on briefly, and expects you to learn it outside of class - so just be prepared for that. Like Muntifering, GO TO SI. Chapter summaries are hard to make sense of, but are sometimes helpful for finding topics he might test on. Very interesting person.

Since Bergen has taught the past 2 semesters and there aren't any reviews I decided I'd stop by and let you know if you're debating on taking this class over the summer vs. fall/spring, TAKE IT OVER THE SUMMER. Having Dr. Bergen as the only teacher no doubt made things easier. The tests are easier, you don't have to switch profs, etc. Great class!

Dr. Bergen's lectures can be confusing, and he is not very clear about what you need to know for the tests. There is a lot in the book that is not required for this course. However, he is extremely helpful in his office hours and interesting to talk to. His test questions are very straight forward and clear. He is a tough teacher, but you learn.

Had him summer semester and he taught alone. Dr. Bergen is very nice so talk to him (even if its brief -- he'll know you) READ THE BOOK. It is very helpful and will clear up some of the more difficult material. Bergen is sometimes very clear on certain topics, but others are not so much. Hard class but interesting. Work harddo well

Dr. Bergen can be hard to understand and sometimes switches very quickly from topic to topic. His exams usually ask a lot of random stuff that we didn't spend much time talking about in class. Therefore, make sure you read the book and understand everything. Overall, this class isn't that bad if you study, go to class, and go to SI.

Very clear on some topics, but others make you feel like you are on a different planet. Don't bother studying your notes for him. Just read the textbook, that is where he pulls his test questions from.

This class isn't easy, by any means, but if you do the assigned reading and practice problems and ATTEND CLASS it will definitely make it easier. Most topics aren't covered too in depth, but you will be tested on everything! So pay attention! Overall great professor. He loves his subject and to answer any questions.

Dr. Bergen really isnt that bad. I had him for Animal Growth and Dev and Biochem. His teaching isnt that clear but if you show up for class and study the material you will be ok. He grades off of the class mean so he is very fair. He gives lots of partial credit on tests. You have to study!! Make friends with him and it will help you in the end.

His test questions are hard, but he seems to give more partial credit than Muntifering, his favorite saying is "Just read the damn question." Listening to his German accent is difficult sometimes, but the class material is not interesting at all.

Okay. So with Bergen in Principles you HAVE to read the book. If you do, you will be fine. He doesnt make a whole lot of sense in class but read the book, focus on what he focuses on in class and that's that. He is very straight forward, more so than Muntifering, although he often expects you to know a little more detail. READ THE BOOK. Go to SI.
