Terrible teacher. Any class that has a scale where a 20 is a D and a 40 is a C means he doesn't know how to teach or write a test. Good luck if you get sick, he won't give a crap.

Comment:

Organic chemistry is an incredibly hard class and he doesn't make it any easier on you by grading the tests extremely hard and going over material at a ridiculously fast pace. It's not too difficult to pass since he gives plenty of bonus points, but it is nearly impossible to get an A. He doesn't prepare you well for the ACS finale exam either...

Ok teacher. Arrogant as can be and goes over material very quickly. Very nice in a fake way. Go to class and you'll get bonus points for his clicker questions if you get them right. Uses the ACS final which you will be screwed for since none of his tests come close to any of the material on the ACS final.

I have had him for Org I&II and toxicology. He is easy to work with. If you need help, see him in his office hours. He is very approachable and friendly. I loved having Dr. Setzer as a teacher! Go to class and talk to him, he's a great and intelligent guy.

Org. Chemistry is not easy. There is a lot of material to cover in a short amount of time. Dr. Setzer does what he can do to get through it, but you'd be dead wrong if you think he will teach you everything you need to know in class. Independent learning is a must. Get the mechanisms, and you'll do well.

He is very 'pseudo nice' He makes things a bit easier then other instructor (Volger)His notes are good guidelines, since they show important themes. Use the notes as the guideline. Make sure to work the tests he gives.Understand the chemistry. He teaches the material in rushed unclear manner with a car salesman smile on the face.Smart guy though

He's the best teacher/mentor I've ever had. His examples/notes/practice tests directly correspond to the exams, sometimes even the exact same ques. He's willing to work with you if you put in the effort. He speeds through stuff in class b/c there's a lot to cover, and he stops to ask for questions all the time. Definitely the best teacher at UAH!

Took Dr. Setzer for Organic 3 lab, in which we were able to identify unknown compounds from essential oils he brought back from Costa Rica. Both he and Dr. Vogler are very helpful and nice, they go out of their way to help you. Keep in mind, if you're lazy and just take advantage, they might be rude..wouldn't you? A+ take his class and LEARN.

He is an ok professor. I found few negative,and positive things. Negative: reads of power point slides, goes over things to fast. A bit arrogant, and swawmy "oh, I am tough organic chemist, so 'I p0wn you' mentality". Positive: knows the subject, posts old exams, and study guides online. Study ahead, practice, ask questions, and PRACICE more!

I love this man!!! This has been my favorite class at UAH so far. Dr. Setzer gives bonus points on almost all of his tests and when the class does poorly he gives brownie quizzes. Also, Dr. Setzer puts his notes and copies of his old exams on webct, both of which really help when studying for exams.
