The most difficult class I have ever taken, but I learned more from Dr. Brightman than I have from any other teacher. He challenged us every day to analyze deeper, to write better, to read more thoughtfully. I honestly feel as though I am a better English student following his class.

I took English Literature from Dr. Brightman about 30 years ago. I liked Wuthering Heights prior to his course but I love it today. His was the most challenging course I ever took, but I hear his voice even now whenever I am trying to make a point. His "help me see what you see" is my benchmark for intellectual integrity.

Very difficult, but he really does make your writing better.He's a bit intimidating at first, but once you accept the fact that you're not as good as writing as you thought you were, this class will change you. One of the most learned teachers I have ever had.

He's the best professor I've ever had. Anyone unwilling to reconsider their beliefs or opinions (or put in the work for the class) wouldn't like him, but maybe those people shouldn't be in college anyway. If you're close-minded or lazy, don't bother to take Brightman.

Dr. Brightman is a brilliant prof. He is extremely knowledgeable in explaining the novels that we read. He has a way of lecturing that makes people join in a discussion about the novel because he asks you questions and encourages you to think. Don't use the words always, never, or all when you are explaining things. He keeps you on your toes!

Of all the classes I've taken at Oglethorpe, Dr. Brightman's is the only one where I feel like I've learned something. He truly enjoys class participation and is interested in your opinion- but he'll want you to dig further into the why, so know it beforehand. When writing papers for him, don't use any absolutes!

If you go through four years of an Oglethorpe education without taking a Brightman class, you have missed out. No matter what majory ou are, Brightman's classes will contribute helpful, lasting ideas to your life. By the end of the semester you are a more open-minded, concise, and sharp writer and communicator. He is hard, but worth the struggle.

Very inteligent and insightful. Challenges your inherited beliefs and encourages you to form your own once more informed. If you are willing to work and you want an awesome course, take Brightman. I am currently taking my second core class with him and I highly recommend it. He's Known as being hard, but it's worth it.

makes you think from all perspectives. Won't let you get you get away with being close minded. Taking his class will definately improve your writing ability. I think he tries to cover up his sensitivity with harsh sarcasim but is really a very nice guy, so although he seems quite intimidating don't be too scared.
