The professor is awesome and it is worth going to lecture. However , even the TA is helpful , the grading of essays tell me that I should not take any history class anymore. Only take this class if you are sure that you can become a history major .If you are shopping for AXLE credit , avoid it!!!!!!!!

Professor Caferro initially comes off as a bookish person, but he quickly reveals that he's full of infectious enthusiasm, interesting insights, and a great sense of humor that lights up his lectures. His expectations are clear, so you know what you'll see on tests and quizzes. I highly recommend Professor Caferro.

Probably one of my favorite professors at Vanderbilt. He is really friendly especially if you go to office hours. His intro courses don't require that much homework, so I would recommend his classes to anyone

The tests and papers were fair, but you have to go to lecture and do the reading. The class covers a broad period of time, which means it's not that in-depth, but you leave feeling much more knowledgeable in general. He's super nice and, while he sometimes goes off on tangents, they're usually interesting and he's pretty self-aware about it.

Prof. Caferro is one of the sweetest and most wonderful professors I've had at Vanderbilt. He manages to make medieval history interesting! His lectures are incredibly engaging & his exams and essays, though difficult, are fair. If you put in the work, it is definitely manageable to get an A. Highly recommend & want to take a class with him again!

Fantastic professor. He is really into the topics he teaches and is always helpful in office hours. The topics on tests/essays can seem a bit too broad, but he really just wants you to have the flexibility with the research. I would definitely recommend this class for both history and non-history majors.

The lectures will tell you what info will be on the test so go to them. The discussion is terribly boring but necessary. Tests cover major topics not specifics, and essay topics are given out before the test. Grading for the out of class essays is a bit harder. Caferro is nice, helpful and funny and I would recommend this class.

Caferro really is your stereotypical history professor. He is quirky and makes a lot of awkward history jokes, but his lectures are super interesting and you can tell how passionate he is about the topic. It's a great survey class to take. You read one book per week, and the midterm/final is just big topics you talk about in discussion.

Such a nice and funny professor. Actually looked forward to class. Lectures are extremely entertaining. Lots of reading but you only have to do the reading for the weekly discussions.

Highly recommend this class. Every week has a different reading to be discussed in section-actually doing the reading is very helpful. Caferro tells you the exact format of the test, and his questions aren't tricky-he just wants everyone to reach a better understanding of the topic. He's incredibly considerate to students' needs.

Professor Caferro is, by far, my favorite professor at Vanderbilt. Funny, smart, interesting, and engaging, he is everything one could one in a professor without being ridiculously difficult. Even for non-history majors, his classes are an excellent choice for an international credit.

Excellent lecturer and interesting class. However, there is a lot of reading (about a book a week) and the TAs grade the papers fairly hard. The exams aren't too challenging though. Overall it's pretty tough to get an A. I'd say the class average was around a B to B+. Only take the course if you have an interest in history.

Amazing teacher; really nice guy; very accessible and has a quirky sense of humor that is heavily influenced by medieval jokes. Definitely take any of the classes offered by him, especially Western Civ.

He is an awesome professor. The best I have come across so far. He is very fair and helpful- he gave us review sessions before the midterm and the final! He grades harder on the paper than the tests/ quizzes but still fair all around. I highly recommend any class he teaches! He makes it interesting and he has an offbeat sense of humor!

Professor Caferro is an excellent lecturer but do not take this class as an LAC elective if you are an engineer. It requires a lot of reading and should only be taken if you have a burning desire to learn about Western Civ. Also, HIST 135 is a weed-out class for history majors.

Although you don't use the textbook, this class is still reading intensive with the weekly reading assignments. Lectures were interesting, only four grades for the semester but they come from the TAs
