Comment:
Do not take this teacher online! Totally unhelpful (you are basically teaching yourself the entire course) and cannot be reached when you have questions. His course schedule has no dates and he provides no feedback on discussions, so it is impossible to know when things are due and what is expected.

I've really not enjoyed him as a prof, expects students to completely understand Latin American themes that he never teaches and favours students with Latin American backgrounds. He also completely shuts down any ideas that he doesn't personally agree with.

I'm taking 2 classes with bill and can't stand him. It seems as if the expectation is to know all of Latin American history before taking the class as the semester has been based on interpreting and recognizing themes in historical data THAT HE NEVER TAUGHT.

I found him very unclear about what he wanted/expected in your papers. Kind of felt like I was graded/judged based on how close I was to him (after I went to his office hours, my marks finally went up, and he definitely has a little clique of students who suck up to him), not on how hard I worked.

Bill is truly a fantastic educator. He is enthusiastic, honest, openminded, and dedicated to encouraging his students to push themselves a further to think about culture, power, and 'history' in new ways. Don't be discouraged by the grade you get. I recommend taking any class with him.

great class but it probably won't be run like this again ever, student led seminar and French couldn't have been a better guy to do it, he was on the same level as everyone else. I wish he would run more courses like this

The class isn't over yet, but it ALMOST is so I can talk... He was really helpful when I needed help with an assignment. He's not a charismatic lecturer but his content is well prepared and fascinating. Nice guy. If you like him check out Roosa, Krause, Bronfman too. I dig his mustache so much.peace

Hard marker, likes to give a lot of B marks. Helpful in encouraging independant thought, lectures sometimes boring as he just reeds off of notes, and class stucture is not as important.

Really nice guy and very interesting course subject. Great discussion was initated and encouraged, but sometimes wandered off topic...don't take this course if you like very structured lectures following a textbook! Marks based on text-analysis essays.

Your typical Nice Guy Prof; personable and friendly; will respond to your e-mail inquiries ASAP; however, some of his lectures need better structure and consistency; he can be a bit challenging...but not enough that it should scare students away
