As a freshman in 1994, I took a Shakespeare class from Bill. If there is an option to take Shakespeare from a descendant and namesake of the bard, why not? I treasure the bond and long time relationship I formed with this man. He knows me and likely all his students by name. When in town, I always stop by to report to him and talk Shakespeare.

I had this professor my freshman year in 1986. Because of the difficulty of his class I was better prepared for future writing. He ran the reading/writing lab at that time and I would visit weekly for TA critiques of my papers. He cared about me as a person too. I would take a class from him again.

Professor Shakespeare is a great teacher! I really liked him a lot. He is helpful with any problems you may have. Papers are graded kind of harshly. Tests aren't that bad if you study, but you HAVE to study and know the material! I would definitely recommend taking any of his classes!

2nd class taken with him. Class can be boring, but he always surprises you with these random funny jokes. Sweet old man. Gives a ton of extra credit. Not a hard grader, but does take attendance at the beginning of every class so make sure you're there! Only 2 papers and memorization of chaucer lines and shakespeare sonnet. Exams not comprehensive!

He is the sweetest, funniest, nicest old man ever, but he really ought to retire. The class was a huge waste of time, he gets way sidetracked easily... to the point of student frustration. Plus, he tested us mainly on glossary terms that we NEVER talked about in class. Like I say, he's a great person... just an old professor...

just dont take this class. Shakespere should not even be teaching. i learned absolutely nothing, and we spent ALL of our class time getting sidetracked in lecutres and talking about topics that were not revelant in the LEAST to the subject matter. and class is mandatory so you have to listen to his rantings. worst professor ive ever had.

lectures can be kinda boring, but if you enjoy Shakespeare and studying it on your own, this is the class for you. he grades easy...prep quizzes on every play studied (best way to prepare by reading along while watching movie of the play at the LRC). overall good class.

Nice guy but tends to get sidetracked in lectures. Was way behind on the syllibus and still tested on things we barely skimmed over. Very detailed tests and lots of reading. Not my first choice of professors, but tolerable.

this teacher is absolutely awful! sure, he might be a good person, but he is a absolutely horrible teacher. doesn't care about your opinion. doesn't even really talk about shakespeare in class, more just random stories that are COMPLETELY irrelevant. classes are so boring that you want to die. avoid this class/professor like the plague!

Very boring. Tests are ridiculously hard. Essays have to be about what HE thinks, not what you think. Wouldn't recommend at all!

He's a good teacher. He tells you what will be on the test, but the tests are EXTREMELY difficult. Be prepared to study a ton. We didn't get very far in the syllabus. He talks a lot about random things (which aren't on the tests), but you do have to take good notes when he goes over the reading, if you don't understand it.

An immense knowledge and love for his material. He knows the coolest stories. Grading is a bit arbitrary on the papers, but I've really never learned more in a class before.

This is a good sit back and relax class. Lectures have little to do with the exams, but his stories and interpretations are amusing enough that I'd recommend this class to anyone looking for a relaxing GE filler. Just have enough time to watch 6 shakespeare films in the lib and $90 for the book.
