Teaches through worksheets (20 sentences in English that you have to translate to Japanese). Only HW you'll ever have, plus occasional kanji sheets, all very easy, but repetitive. He gives you the answers to all his exams in the worksheets and goes over them in class so show up and pay attention. Really chill guy, easy A if you memorize the sheets.

Many people aren't used to his teaching style. But I think it works. Learning a language isn't all just the instructor, you gotta really teach yourself as well: 40% professor, 60% yourself. Learning a language requires constant practice and repetition outside of class, and this professor knows that very much. Other than that, he is really friendly.

He's very nice and chill. We learned different kinds of grammar points but it wasn't super intense, pretty laid back. It's a lot of studying outside the classroom to really get it in your head. He gives A LOT of worksheets so a binder to keep track of all your papers is handy.

A lot of people dislike him, but I really think his teaching style just takes some getting used to. You have to be prepared to study a lot on your own, but when you do, it does pay off in class. He has an indirect teaching style, and I didn't think I was learning at first, but my Japanese has gotten a LOT better. But the worksheets... why?!

I think he is extremely helpful and at the same time funny. He is relatively easy on gradings and definately willing to help students any way possible. He is my favorite professor! I would recommend taking his class to any of my friends.

He has a very authentically Japanese way of teaching. Its a little hard to get used to if you have never been in a self study course before but I've take two classes with him so I figured it out and got used to it quickly. Once you get the hang of it its really easy to follow the class and he's actually really helpful teacher if you have questions.

His teaching method is giving a list of twenty sentences, having you translate them into Japanese or English, then giving you another, and another, and another list. He never actually teaches and it severly limits your ablility to think in the language. He's a great guy, but just not a good teacher.

he only teaches what he feels like teaching that semester. he's a fun guy, and sometimes brings in snacks. although he doesn't quite know how to teach. i hope you're good at studying on your own. everything on your own. loves everything related to the proletariat and communism. i've heard some disquieting things but i shouldn't type them here

Cipris is very smart--his Japanese is good. However, I believe he's more suited for translation than teaching, as most of us don't understand what we are doing in class. our Japanese TA didn't even get what was going on half the time (I heard the same from the advanced class TA). Questions are answered with "it's in the book"...even if it isn't.

Got ****? Then you get an A in his class. Its OBVIOUS that he caters to the females in the class. He also finds every way possible to avoid answering your questions amd he WILL give you bad grades if you voice dissent about his political opinions.
