I took Professor Zouhair Ghazzal my second semester of my freshman year. While I received an A in the class, I was made aware I was the only student in that lecture who did. Not one of my papers for this class was under 25 pages. Part of me got a bit of a creeper vibe from him too. If you are reading this, do not take the class, you won't do well.

Expects way too much from his students. The amount of reading and writing was insane (he wanted around 15 paged essays). The readings were hard to get through because they were so dry too, would not recommend...

Very smart man teaching at the WRONG LEVEL. He expects so much from 100 level students. Must of whom are freshmen. Expecting them to write 15+ page papers in APA or Chicago (something that freshmen are typically new to). Also very condescending. Will let you know that you are dumb. Don't take him unless you are humanities major.

He's clearly a smart man, but he doesn't explain things well in his lectures. There are 3 papers that account for 3/4 of the grade and he grades them HARD, expecting you to have a complete understanding of the extremely dense books he assigns. He either flies through the material or drones on about one little topic. Would not recommend.

Prof Ghazzal knows what hes talking about, but is not a very good teacher. Hes a harsh grader and isnt very clear with prompts/assignments. Id recommend taking a different professor if youre looking to get a required core out of the way while at the same time knowing what youre doing. Your grade is based off of three papers and a presentation

Let me tell you all about Dr. Ghazzal, he's an evident intellectual, but teaching isn't his forte. I literally did the bare minimum in his class: didn't fully read all three assigned books and wrote on average 10 pages for each paper. However, I went to his office hours ONCE, and he genuinely seemed charmed by me, that helped me get a decent grade.

Professor Ghazzal is incredibly intelligent. We learned a lot, however, we were expected to learn and write at a graduate school level. This class, which is a tier 1 history class that is part of the Loyola core, involves an outrageous amount of writing. I got an A in this class, but I wrote 65 pages and it basically consumed all of my time.

Do not take this class. For what should be an introductory history course, the man expects an incredible amount from his students. The books he hands out are thick, but with the essay guidelines not given until a week before the due date, you read not knowing what you should retain. Very strict grader. Save yourself some gray hairs and skip this.

Don't do it my dude! Although the text are moderately interesting, its just too much reading. And if you ask him a question in class his answers are not very clear just like his guidelines for the essays. He is a nice guy but teaching abilities are sub-par!

The worst professor I have ever had. DO NOT take this class. None of his lectures make sense, he doesn't even finish a sentence. Grade is based on three papers. He gives very vague guidelines and no feedback on how to improve. He basically just wants you to repeat his ideas back to him in a 20 page paper.

This professor knows very much about the topics he teaches, but he is a pretty bad professor. He is a very, VERY tough grader and his lectures are essentially incomprehensible. No one in my class got higher than a B on their first essay, and that was with a curve. This is the only class I have ever dropped.

This class has been the only class that I have needed to drop. The readings are not only confusing but incredibly dry. His comments are generic and virtually unusable. And office hours don't help either. I would avoid these classes if at all possible

Lectures were long and droning, guidelines for assignments were unclear, grading criteria was non-existent, comments on papers were not helpful, and the course was basically what people describe when they say why they hate history. Ghazzal is an incredibly smart man, but his class seemed to be graded by how well you could repeat his ideas on paper.

If you're looking for an easy A, this isn't the class for you. If you're not the best at reading, comprehension, and writing, this isn't the class for you. Make sure you read all the books he assigns because he asks in-depth questions for the essays. Tough grader. Overall, this is too much work for a core class and I wouldn't take him again.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Dr. Ghazzal is an extremely unclear professor and very difficult to understand. Super hard grader. Probably won't get a very good grade unless you want to get your Phd in history

Professor Ghazzal is a very intelligent and nice person but a very challenging professor. As long as you read the material and regularly ask him questions, you won't fail the class, but there's no guarantee you'll get higher than a B either. If you're ready for an academic challenge, go for it! If not, proceed with caution.

At first I really hated this class I had such a hard time getting used to reading and writing these really long essays By the end of the semester I got the hang of it. Get the chance to know him Ask him to read over your papers (yes work on them early) he gives good feedback I learned more than ever before in this class. Don't give up Don't be lazy

At first I was extremely overwhelmed and in despair over taking this class. He was very hard to understand in the way he taught, and I was even a month late on the first essay. You need to learn how he teaches in order to fully appreciate him. Most important: Get to know him personally. He's a really cool guy and is VERY smart and caring.

You can tell he really knows a lot about his subject, but he's just not the best teacher. His lectures are hard to follow and he's critical of anything except the specific answers he has in mind. The readings are also seriously intense, and you'll need to do them for the long, complicated papers.
