Comment:
Great professor. All the bad reviews must be from people who don't do well academically, as they are very inaccurate. 307 was great, let us explore our interests, let us do quiz corrections until we got a 100%, and allows you to make appointments other than office hours. She also scheduled field trips and brought in great guest speakers.

She usually starts class about 10 minutes late. Her classes typically are just her experiences which are not helpful. 20 out of 36 kids failed and she blamed us for not working harder (I passed). She does not provide feedback and does not display understanding of anything she does. When she defines anything she simply says the word she is defining.

I highly suggest NOT taking her class because she is all over the place. She doesn't read her own syllabus (which has so many incorrect due dates and issues), she assigns things that you have no idea what to do because she gives no help and no guidance, and she assigns way too much work. There are three books used with readings every week from all.

Professor Mountcastle is a fair professor. A bit dull during her lectures but attendance is not very important. I missed 1/4 of the classes and still got a B. No homework, only one test in essay form. Majority of grades are essay assignments which are rather easy. Not a good professor, not a bad professor, but most importantly shes fair and easy

Attendance is required but the professor never actually teaches. She rarely helps and bases literally all of the midterm on the books and nothing about what she did in class. Again she doesn't actually teach, she basically holds class to ramble about things that you're never going to use on the tests

Her expectations are way to high. She's a tough grader and isn't willing to help whatsoever. If you can't make it to her office hours, then you're screwed since she wont make outside appointments. Avoid her if you can.

As long as you go to class and take notes, you'll be fine. hardly any outside work, just make sure to study for quizzes and exams. She knows what she is talking about. Good teacher.

Very hard grader and doesn't respond to email's when you want to ask her a question. I put in about 14 hours of work on a paper only to get an E. If you want a good grade DON'T take this class.

Anthropology of Human Rights is an interesting course but not so much when your professor doesn't really wanna help you. She grades incredibly difficult, its ridiculous, mos o the class agreed and whats funny is that if you review your paper over with her she'll see where SHE made her mistakes. Smart woman BUT NOT a great professor!

Creates horrible tests online. Most questions consist of select the best answer - where their can be multiple correct ones, or she has questions that say check all that apply.

She is one of the best Anth professor I have known. She is straight forward, bold, fair, and smart. The way she talks, teaches, and encourage the students to 'think' was really helpful and even ground breaking to open up the new views of world through Anthropology. Also she has the sweet smile. Thanks a lot, Dr.Mountcastle.

I took her political anthropology class last semester and the lady is an absolute ****. I did a research paper and I gathered alot of sources and I thought that I did very well only to recieve a 68. She used to study in Nepal, maybe you should go back there!

Cultural anthropology was easy for me because I did the work, attended class, and studied. You will be fine if you do the work...some struggled because they did not. Class can be boring, but be sure to participate. Mountcastle will get to know you and like you better if you do.

Takes off points for the most rediculous reasons and doesn't care about her students, even though she comes off as nice. You could sit through an hour and fifteen minute lecture without taking any notes. Lectures are dry and films are bizarre. Avoid her, but if you end up with her, don't waste time doing extra credit because it won't help you.
