Ann Sobel is the worst professor I've ever had. She doesn't have internet at home, which makes it impossible to access her on the weekends. The worst part of this class was the project. The requirements were pretty much nonexistent, and when we got our grades, there were massive deductions for things that were not at all emphasized to be important.

Grading feels 100% arbitrary. No rubrics for projects, no study guides for exams. Good projects get knocked for random garbage reasons. Be ready to regurgitate stuff she mentioned once in lecture for exams. Exams are difficult. Class is painfully boring. Worst teacher I've had on campus so far.

Decent teacher, nothing special. She goes on tangents a lot and if you ask her a question you'll end up in a conversation. The semester long project taught me a lot. He grading is wack. The group that had the best project got criticized the most and the group with the worst got the least. It's all because she liked the one student.

Lectures are hard to sit through. Talks kinda slow, & asks questions that nobody knows the answer to, so she sits there and waits for someone to respond. Most people just work on other stuff in class. Occasional in-class lab, few hw assignments. You do a group project that takes all semester. I'm sure she's a nice lady, but not an enjoyable class.

Dr. Sobel took over our class after our professor quit unexpectedly. She changed the weights of our grades that had already been put in (dropping many students' grades by 5-10%), gave us two not-put-together lectures before giving us a test that she gave to her other sections she had been teaching all semester (different from our section), etc. NO.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! No, really, avoid taking CSE 201 with her. We had a group project we were working on all semester, and she changed the requirements halfway through the semester. Plus, despite the fact she is a CSE professor, she had trouble getting Canvas to work on several occasions.

DO NOT take Sobel if you have little background in programming. Her lectures are confusing as all get out! When you ask her questions she will basically say figure it out yourself while she stands over your shoulder and watches you fail miserably and the only feedback you'll get from her is 'yes or no'. She almost made me want to change majors!

Honestly the worst teacher I have ever had, and I have never had a "worst" teacher. She knows plenty of her material but is not the best at explaining it. The part that sucks the most is when you ask for help, you'll tend to be left more confused than you were before you asked.

This is an INTRO to object oriented programming. My assumption is that an INTRO class does not require previous knowledge of the material. Sobel doesn't seem to care and is very unhelpful. She just laughs and does not usually give a direct answer. Praise the TA, without him I wouldn't have come close to passing.. or understanding the material!

I took this class in 99 taught with C++. The class was very tough and required hard work. It is worth it. To really "get it" you need to do your own research along w/ lecture. Sobel doesn't hold your hand, but is a very knowledgeable and available resource. The professor can't do it all for you. No single class prepared me more for the real world.

one of the worst teachers I've ever had. she doesn't explain much in the lecture and expects way too much for this being an intro to java. shes decently helpful when she's not teaching, but her homework is always due on saturday or sunday and she is unavailable on weekends so she cant help much
