Option 1) Read everything, take detailed notes in class, spend 3-4 hours outside of class reading. Get an A in the class no problem Option 2) Read 20 minutes a week, just listen in class, fill out and memorize a list of terms (that the class google docs haha) and get a B+ no sweat He is politically unbiased in presenting, I highly respect that.

Took this class instead of American heritage. Lots of reading, but you don't really have to do it if you study the key terms for the tests. The lectures were boring but he is a super nice guy. My biggest problem was with the time it took to get grades back. I took the final only knowing what my grades were in like 30% of the assignments.

His lectures get old over the course of the semester. All the assignments are fairly easy, but there is a lot of reading. His tests require you to memorize terms and why they are important. He gives you like 70 to study but then tests you on only 20 terms.

The online Hist 221 class is incredibly difficult. The quizzes are open book, but they seem like they are trying to trick you. You are expected to know over 300 terms in detail for both the midterm and the final exam. He grades tough.

Professor Cannon is really nice. This class was not very hard but it was also not very fun. The lectures could be very boring. After the midterm, I stopped reading the textbook and I did better on the final than I did on the midterm. If you can confidently fill out the terms list then you will do great on the tests.

Dr. Cannon's a stud. He's very kind and welcomes questions. Even if you never talk, he'll know your name. Yeah, there's reading, but what history class doesn't have readings? Even then, the tests are based on key terms. So you don't have to read everything word for word. He also tells you what's going to be on the test. And there's extra credit!

Comment:
The level of difficulty for Prof. Cannon's online US History course is absolutely ridiculous... In particular, the structure of the exams is absurd, as he expects you to be capable of providing high level detailed analysis of nearly 300 figures and events... Don't expect for him to cut you any breaks on the grading either... AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Dr. Cannon's class was fantastic. It was not an easy class, the tests are a large amount of work and the readings can get heavy at times, but you will learn so much if you come to class and pay attention. Like others have mentioned, he is so articulate and kind, but also profound, but also pretty funny in his own right. Highly recommend Dr. Cannon.

Professor Cannon is the sweetest guy ever. The lectures are fun and engaging. The work is reading books and writing short reviews and then tests are all writing on terms learned throughout class. Just keep up with the reading and you'll be fine.

I love Dr. Cannon. He is so smart, humble, and accessible. He is one of the least intimidating professors I have had and his class is very interesting.

He is a really nice guy. He cares about his students and knows his stuff. He doesn't post his power points online, so you have to be very good about taking notes in class. 3 book quizzes, easy if you read. His TA grades most things. The midterm is really scary though. It is soo many terms and you have to know all the dates. Make sure you read!

Took Dr. Cannon's online class. He was really accommodating when I had to finish on a tight schedule. All my work was graded in a timely manner. The few interactions I had with him were very pleasant. The quizzes, which are open-book, are far harder than the exams, though the exams cover a lot of potential information.

Dr. Cannon is very good at what he does, but if history doesn't interest you, it can be really boring. His lectures are long but entertaining. He always starts the class with a joke, and gives you study guides for the tests, but they are very long and tedious.

Professor Cannon was incredibly nice and you could tell that he really cared about his students and his subject. Unfortunately, I found his lectures very hard to pay attention to. I constantly found myself spacing out during class because he just isn't engaging. It was pretty easy to BS my way through, but I wouldn't take this class again.

Exams have 150+ potential terms, which is whittled down to 20 & you choose 15. The reading quizzes, book quizzes, and paper are not that difficult, but the midterm can seem daunting. Dr. Cannon is really nice and does an excellent job of answering students' questions. Read the book if you want to do well on the exams.

Dr. Cannon is the best professor. His class is straight lecture, so you really have to pay attention, but it is very interesting, he knows his material front and back, and he is kind and willing to help. The tests are hard but if you're willing to put in the effort, you'll get the grade you deserve. Great class!

I would not recommend this ONLINE class to anyone. The quizzes seemed like they were trying to trick me the whole time. (That was the main concern) Do not take this course unless you love a TON of work and love to study for a very long time. He is a very helpful teacher though, but would NOT recommend his online course.
